The primary purpose of this job is to serve as the primary system functional support for fuel accounting and bulk petroleum systems within the Petroleum Accounting departments. The role involves coordinating and managing reporting information solutions, maintaining direct peer and customer relations to define reporting needs, and participating as an active team member in identifying solutions to functional system-related issues. The individual will lead, manage, and ensure all closing functions to produce accurate monthly profit/loss statements and perform special projects as requested by senior management. The major functions of the role include assisting in the design, testing, and implementation of new systems and system rewrites affecting the Petroleum Accounting department. This involves collaboration with Petroleum leadership, IT personnel, and other applicable departments to identify and implement solutions for business requirements and their impact on accounting work processes. The individual will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Right Angle Accounting module and E1 accounting systems, understand and implement best practices, train and support users, lead testing requirements, and make recommendations to senior management to improve processes and system accuracy. Additionally, the role includes leading and managing the monthly Petroleum Accounting closing processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP standards, assisting with problem resolution, and acting as a liaison between the Petroleum Department and Accounting.

  • Assist in the design, testing, and implementation of new systems affecting the Petroleum Accounting department.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Right Angle Accounting module and E1 accounting systems.
  • Train and support users of systems, implementing enhancements based on feedback.
  • Lead all testing requirements for all systems.
  • Make recommendations to senior management to improve processes and accuracy of systems.
  • Monitor and evaluate future needs of systems based on new business requirements and changing accounting rules.
  • Lead and manage the monthly Petroleum Accounting closing processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP standards.
  • Assist with problem resolution and preparation of final closing entries and monthly reporting.
  • Review accuracy of statements prepared for publication.
  • Act as liaison between Petroleum Department and Accounting for questions, reports, and analysis.
  • Perform special projects as requested by senior management, including research and compliance with new accounting standards.
  • Provide guidance to management on accounting and financial reporting concepts.
  • Create and maintain training manuals and guidelines for accounting systems.
  • Review weekly and monthly closing results for analysis as requested by senior management.
  • Act as a team member through cross-training and support of Petroleum Accounting functions.
  • Oversee and review all LIFO calculations for Petroleum Accounting groups.
  • Serve as point of contact for internal and external audits.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years experience in accounting or finance position with emphasis on G/L account reconciliation.
  • Analytical thinking and independent problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills.
  • CPA or equivalent professional certification.
  • 7 years' experience in a petroleum or motor fuel environment including working knowledge of trading operations and derivatives.
  • Experience in Access or database related software.
