About The Position

Senior Lab Technician, Family Care Specialists Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift Hours M-F 8a-5p Covenant Medical Group is Covenant Health's employed and managed medical practice organization, with more than 300 top Physicians and providers spanning the continuum of care in 20 cities throughout East Tennessee. Specialties include cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, cardiovascular surgery, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general surgery, infectious disease, neurology, neurosurgery, obstetrics and gynecology, occupational medicine, orthopedic surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, primary care, pulmonology, reproductive medicine, rheumatology, sleep medicine and urology. Position Summary: Performs routine and specialized clinical lab tests for use in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by physicians. Requirements

Must possess basic computer skills and medical terminology.
Must have at least three (3) years experience in each of the following categories: Phlebotomy, Waived and Non-waived testing.
OSHA and CLIA annual training.

Responsibilities

Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program and safety standards.
Will perform other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Medical Director or office manager to include: scheduling, ordering of supplies from preferred vendors, etc.
Assists in the implementation and evaluation of new projects including the development of policies and procedures and consideration of new lab equipment.
Is responsible for checking and follow-up of incomplete reference Lab reports.
Is responsible for the generation, verification, submission and posting of reference lab billing.
Properly collects blood samples from venous and capillary sites as required by the clinic.
Properly handles all specimens including prompt transport to the lab, special tube requirements, on ice, as needed, preparation and preservation, without contamination, etc. Identifies and labels specimens.
Performs all routine and specialized lab tests trained for as assigned.
Runs, maintains and/or repairs laboratory equipment.
Performs and documents quality control samples in assigned work area.
Cleans and sterilizes equipment, glassware and instruments.
Prepares solutions, reagents and stains according to standard formulas and procedures.
Answers phones and responds to physician inquiries regarding lab results.
Maintains required records, reports, statistics, logs, files to comply with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies, i.e. CLIA.
Acts as CLIA trainer for clinic as appropriate and has thorough knowledge of lab requirements.
Informs patients of test results and medication changes or adjustments as needed after physician reviews and approves report.
Complies with OSHA standards, Universal Precautions, safety manuals and laboratory policies and procedures including, but not limited to wearing gloves and using safety needles.
Plans work to insure maximum productivity with minimum amount of "carry over" work, while keeping overtime to a minimum. Responsible for communicating to the other appropriate staff needed information about patient samples, instrument performance, and CPT codes for testing ordered.
Maintains knowledge of all insurance payor billing requirements and lab billing procedures so profitability of lab is maximized.
Uses the fundamental of AIDET when interacting and communicating with patients.
Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as directed.
Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
Collaborate with the patient, physician and other care team members as part of a team based approach to overall patient care.
