About The Position

Under supervision of the IT Infrastructure Team Leader, provides technical expertise to ensure that all Airport Board infrastructure facilities and systems are sufficient, appropriate, and functioning well. The Senior Infrastructure Specialist will ensure that data, voice, backbone fiber systems, and communications rooms perform at optimum and cost-effective levels. Oversees and manages project and operational efforts including documenting cable management procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electronics, computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Four (4) years of experience working with digital network systems.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.
  • Possession of a valid class C driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with electronics work.
  • Knowledge of current BICSI Telecommunications wiring standards.
  • Knowledge of all National Electric Codes
  • Knowledge of fiber optics testing and the ability to interpret testing documentation.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of project management.
  • Knowledge of networking for configuration and deployment.
  • Knowledge of multiple software and hardware tools for troubleshooting.
  • Skill in utilizing advanced mathematical methods and computer modeling.
  • Ability to create scopes of work and work schedules.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and drawings.
  • Ability to analyze problems and to make recommendations that address maintenance requirements, manpower availability, contractual obligations, and Airport Board policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people inside and outside the organization.
  • Knowledge of specific technologies, hardware and software utilized at DFW Airport.
  • Ability to create procedures and documentation for cable management.
  • Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et. Al. and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.

Responsibilities

  • Determines causes of systems malfunctions and directs or performs corrective actions.
  • Monitors, logs, tracks, and resolves communication room access issues and escorts contractors into critical communications rooms when necessary.
  • Responsible for the documentation of all telecommunications, data, fiber backbone infrastructure, and communication room cabinet rack elevations using the Microsoft Share Point documentation system.
  • Reviews requests for service, evaluates whether requested services fall within guidelines and ensures infrastructure facilities are available.
  • Maintains professional proficiency in the latest technologies and state of the art in infrastructure technologies.
  • Develop infrastructure requirements for new Board facilities; designs related communications facilities.
  • Installs infrastructure systems in new or remodeled Board facilities.
  • Identifies and acquires appropriate test equipment and spare parts inventory for infrastructure support.
  • Maintains infrastructure related systems and resolves problems using the Unicenter trouble ticket system.
  • Keeps the DFW Design Criteria Manual updated with the latest technologies and standards.
  • Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
