Sr. IT Automation Engineer

LoopColumbus, OH

About The Position

We’re looking for a Sr. IT Automation Engineer to own and evolve the IT function across Loop’s IT and internal systems, reducing operational drag, increasing reliability, and improving the employee experience without requiring proportional IT headcount growth. Success in this role is measured not just by what’s built, but by what’s adopted: scalable, secure, well-documented workflows that are actively used by the teams they’re designed for. This role blends deep systems thinking with strong execution and cross-functional partnership, using automation and AI-enabled tooling to streamline how Loop operates. This role focuses on maximizing the automation, extensibility, and intelligence of our existing systems and platforms (HRIS/ITSM/IdP/SaaS tools), only building custom solutions where they provide clear and measurable business value. You’ll collaborate closely with Engineering, Security, People, Finance, and business leaders to identify bottlenecks, reduce manual work, lower error rates, and accelerate time to value through modern automation patterns. As a Senior IT Automation Engineer, you are a proactive force multiplier who engineers scalable systems, automations, and compliance frameworks that enable Loop to grow efficiently without expanding IT headcount. You anticipate needs before they surface, design resilient infrastructure and systems, and automate workflows to improve reliability, security, and user experience. You drive key aspects of Loop’s compliance posture, technology direction, integrating controls, automating evidence collection, and ensuring systems align with audit and security standards. Through technical depth, foresight, and cross-functional alignment, you model how IT can operate as a strategic partner, delivering secure, scalable, and efficient systems that empower every team at Loop.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in IT, automation, systems engineering, internal tooling, or related technical roles with a strong focus on reducing manual effort and improving scalability.
  • Proven experience building automation that interacts with real systems (APIs, webhooks, SCIM/SSO, event-driven workflows), not just one-off scripts.
  • Strong understanding of identity and access management fundamentals (SSO/SAML, SCIM, least privilege, role-based access patterns).
  • Demonstrated ability to design reusable automation patterns and infrastructure-as-code approaches that scale across tools and teams.
  • Confidently engages directly with stakeholders to surface pain points, define success metrics, and deliver high-impact solutions aligned to business priorities.
  • Experience operating in environments where security, compliance, and audit readiness are critical, and partnering cross-functionally to meet those needs.
  • Strong prioritization instincts and ability to balance urgency, risk, effort, and business value to drive outcomes.
  • Proven ability to operate independently in ambiguity, build cross-functional trust, and drive progress without constant direction.
  • Deep care for reliability, clarity, and long-term maintainability: documentation, guardrails, observability, and ownership are part of “done.”
  • Familiarity with tools or systems that can act on behalf of users (workflow engines, assistants, orchestration platforms, or API-driven automation).

Responsibilities

  • Identify and own a small number of high-leverage automation initiatives that drive outsized impact (vs. spreading effort across low-value tasks) for the function.
  • Design, build, and maintain reusable automation workflows across IT systems using APIs, webhooks, and event-driven patterns.
  • Maximize native capabilities in third-party tools (e.g., Rippling, Google Workspace, Slack, Salesforce, Jira, GitHub/GitLab, etc) to automate repetitive access tasks.
  • Build scalable automation patterns for onboarding, offboarding, access changes, device lifecycle workflows, approvals, and internal requests.
  • Establish self-serve patterns that allow internal teams (Engineering + business users) to safely initiate workflows with clear guardrails and documentation.
  • Layer AI copilots and intelligent tooling on top of existing infrastructure to reduce support load and empower non-engineers, while maintaining security, compliance, and maintainability.
  • Support and help own Loop’s SOC 2 compliance posture by partnering with Security and Leadership to streamline evidence collection and access-related controls (e.g., access requests, approvals, reviews, and audits), ensuring IT systems remain audit-ready year-round.
  • Own key integrations and workflows across identity, device management, HRIS, SaaS provisioning, and internal service desk systems.
  • Track and communicate automation impact using practical metrics (e.g., time saved, fewer manual touchpoints, cycle time reduction, error reduction, and fewer escalations).
  • Contribute to operational maturity through strong documentation, runbooks, playbooks, and enablement sessions that increase adoption and reduce reliance on tribal knowledge.
