About The Position

The Senior Grants Officer will take a lead role in working with non-profits applying for grants, help review program outcomes, mentor Grant Officers/Analysts to help gain maturity in program management, and support other Foundation staff with the daily promotional, operational, and fiscal responsibilities of the Foundation. The Senior Grants Officer will serve as a statewide resource for Foundation projects, grant-making and other processes, and procedures of the Foundation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in public policy, social work, education, business administration, nonprofit management, or legal studies.
  • Candidates with advanced degrees in a related field of study will be given preference.
  • Prior work experience in a Foundation, Corporate philanthropy, Credit Union, or Nonprofit industry is preferred.
  • Foundation experience preferred, including experience with project or program management.
  • Minimum amount of relevant experience is 4 years.
  • Proficiency in written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in research, evaluation, and risk assessment.
  • Understanding of current events impacting North Carolina communities.
  • Must be able to serve as a representative for SECU and SECU Foundation in all public settings.
  • Comfortable in public speaking, networking, building cross-cultural relationships, and interacting with public charities and government organizations.
  • Aptitude for meeting people, building relationships, and collaborating on projects.
  • Ability to analyze situations and make sound decisions based on available data.
  • Knowledge of SECU policies and procedures is required.
  • Experience with Foundation software and other operational systems such as Fluxx and DocuSign is beneficial but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary liaison for all grantmaking inquiries.
  • Maintain considerable contact with nonprofit organizations, other foundations and grantmakers, general public, and SECU employees especially branch and operations management.
  • Demonstrate strong relationship building and communication skills.
  • Assist with grantmaking administration which includes evaluating grant proposals, meeting with grant applicants, organizing site visits, conducting due diligence, assessing the impact of projects and programs, and writing and presenting recommendations to provide feedback to the Foundation Board of Directors.
  • Understand software applications utilized by the Foundation (e.g., Fluxx, DocuSign) to facilitate grant inquiries and administer completed grant requests.
  • Mentor Grant Officers and Associates to encourage growth and maturity in program/project management and provide guidance on their assigned projects as needed.
  • Coordinate Foundation functions performed by SECU internal departments (e.g., Accounting, Legal Services, Marketing, Communications, Loan Administration) and provide follow-up to determine work is properly completed.
  • Work with Foundation Engagement staff to assist with coordination of press releases, media events, social media platforms, and presentations.
  • Interact with member organizations of the North Carolina Network of Grantmakers including conference planning and coordination of collaborative grantmaking.
  • Interact with NC government agencies and departments to assess potential public/private partnerships for statewide initiatives.
