About The Position

This role is primarily responsible for guaranteeing the functional safety of highly integrated vehicle features throughout their entire lifecycle, from design and development to final validation. Key activities include performing comprehensive safety analyses like HARA and FTA, defining safety requirements, and developing robust safety mechanisms such as diagnostics and fail-safe strategies across multiple vehicle domains. The individual will also serve as the functional safety single point of contact for engineering, collaborating closely with diagnostics and system architecture teams to deliver robust and safe solutions.

Requirements

  • Degree education in Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical (or similar)
  • Over 5 years of experience within the automotive industry (or equivalent), ideally OEM or Tier 1 working within functional safety
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of integrity
  • Experience working within a cross-functional team
  • Ability to report to senior management and report accurate information in a clear and concise manner
  • Proven knowledge of Systems Engineering and experience applying within an OEM or Tier 1
  • Proven knowledge of ISO 26262 and experience applying within an OEM or Tier 1

Nice To Haves

  • Good understanding of Vehicle Moding/Power Cycling, OTA mechanisms, Diagnostic Environments and/or message protection a plus.
  • Proficient in diagnostic tools, CAN/LIN bus protocols, and Vector tools (CANoe, CANalyzer) a plus
  • Exposure to Vehicle/LabCar/HIL testing environments for systems validation

Responsibilities

  • Primarily responsible for ensuring functional safety in the design, development, and validation of highly integrated features that underpin the vehicle operations.
  • Contribute to feature requirements and provide functional safety guidance on feature definition
  • Perform vehicle level HARA and generate safety goals, perform safety analyses such as DFMEA and FTA analysis, and develop safety requirements using the company’s requirements tool
  • Develop safety mechanisms such as redundancy, diagnostics, and fail-safe strategies in vehicle state machine handling across multiple technical domains (e.g. dynamics, factory, energy, body etc.)
  • Develop test cases to verify and validate safety mechanisms on LabCar and Vehicle test assets through data analysis and reporting.
  • Represent the functional safety team as a single point of contact, working alongside the engineering departments to provide technical guidance, review, and approval as part of internal and external development activities
  • Specifically, collaborate closely with Diagnostics and System Architecture teams to achieve system safety objectives and deliver robust solutions.
