The Sr. Full-stack Software Engineer will lead the development, enhancement, maintenance, debugging, and testing of custom-built applications for the Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research (ITSMR). This role involves providing advanced technical support, optimizing project management tools, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring system reliability while adhering to best practices in software development.

  • Lead the development, enhancement, maintenance, debugging, and testing of ITSMR's custom-built Drug Recognition Expert applications.
  • Provide advanced technical support to end-users and troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Administer and optimize the Atlassian/JIRA platform for project management and workflow efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and maintain scalable solutions.
  • Lead code reviews, design discussions, and guide the team in adopting best practices.
  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, reports, and user manuals.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead projects from concept to deployment.
  • Extensive experience with JavaScript (ES6+), Java frameworks (e.g., Spring, Hibernate, Maven), SQL (preferably MySQL), RESTful API development (preferably in Java or Python), HTML5, and CSS.
  • Expertise in version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN) and CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with culturally diverse teams.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work on-site in Albany, NY, at least 50% of the time.
  • Experience building mobile applications (preferably with Cordova, Ionic).
  • Proficiency with modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., Vue, React, or Angular).
  • Experience with Spring Boot.
  • Expertise with containerization and orchestration technologies like Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, and Docker Compose.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
  • Experience working in Linux environments.
  • Proficiency with Tomcat.
  • Proficiency with microservices architecture.
  • Strong unit testing skills (e.g., Jest, JUnit).
  • Familiarity with security best practices in software development, including secure coding, authentication, and data protection.
  • Proficiency in Python.
