West Coast Senior Fire Protection Engineer & Engineering Supervisor Needed! HGA is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Fire Protection Engineering Supervisor to lead and grow our West Coast Fire Protection Department. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related degree from an ABET accredited program, master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering a plus.
  • 9 + years of professional fire protection engineering acting as the engineer of record or responsible in charge of design projects, including familiarity with the International Code Council (ICC), NFPA 101, NFPA 13, and NFPA 72
  • Registered Fire Protection PE required.
  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, fire codes, NFPA standards, FM Global datasheets, military standards, and refinery/industrial API guidelines
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access authorization to facilities and data of existing and potential client.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Supervisory experience (e.g., staffing, performance management, training and mentoring staff)
  • Revit, BIM, and Microsoft Office skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • NICET certification in Water-Based System Layout, Fire Alarm Systems, or Special Hazards Systems a plus (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies)

Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Growth: Lead the West Coast Fire Protection Department, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. Develop strategies to grow the team and enhance our capabilities in fire protection engineering.
  • Project Management: Oversee fire protection design for a wide range of projects, ensuring all solutions align with regulatory standards and client expectations.
  • Collaborative Engagement: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to integrate fire protection systems into broader project designs, enhancing overall project outcomes.
  • Mentorship and Development: Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, supporting their professional growth and ensuring the department remains at the forefront of industry advancements.
  • Act as fire protection engineering discipline lead for the design and/or review of fire alarm, suppression, and life safety systems on multi-discipline projects.
  • Function as local fire protection engineering department lead in your office, to include but not limited to business development, team training/mentorship involvement, performance management, workload management and recruiting.
  • Coordinate with and support other A/E disciplines.
  • Present and solicit knowledge sharing opportunities between other architectural and engineering disciplines.
  • Participate in design review meetings and workshops.
  • Assist with preparation of comprehensive fire protection packages including fire suppression, fire alarm, smoke management, and life safety.
  • Create specification documentation for fire alarm and fire suppression systems.
  • Perform fire suppression and alarm systems calculations.
  • Evaluate building and life safety requirements including building area and height limitations, building construction types, fire resistive assemblies and opening protections, occupancy classifications, hazards, building egress, and active and passive smoke management systems.
  • Provide construction administration support including coordination with field personnel to resolve design related installation issues, the review of contractor shop drawings and calculations, field inspections, and witnessing testing of fire protection systems.
  • Coordinate with all applicable local authority departments to obtain approval at all stages of the project, to include creation of code modification requests and engineering judgements.
  • Perform site evaluations and document existing fire protection systems; and Be responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies; and perform other duties as assigned.
