About The Position

This accounting position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of product costing, process constraints, standard rate calculations, overhead analysis, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. This position must also construct and monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to Special Metals Corporation’s management. This position is required to interface with Sales, Operations, Process Engineering, and Quality to coordinate efforts in evaluating product costs, sales, and cost reduction programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required
  • 3-5 years Cost Accounting experience required
  • 2-4 years of Financial Analysis in a manufacturing environment
  • Must have a strong Cost systems background and have excellent analytical skills; sound understanding of accounting principles.
  • Computer Literate – Strong Excel skills REQUIRED and the ability to use Outlook and Word
  • Experience working with engineering and manufacturing personnel on development and analysis of cost standards.
  • Ability to accurately prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA and/or CMA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, studying, collecting, and recording data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory, labor and the allocation of overhead costs.
  • Analyzing changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided, to determine effects on cost.
  • Analyzing and reporting on actual/standard manufacturing costs and associates variances.
  • Making estimates of new and proposed product costs.
  • Providing management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services.
  • Maintaining Cost Accounting System.
  • Assisting in Month end close of the General Ledger.
  • Assist with annual physical inventory.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and reconciliations for all inventories, including calculations and analysis of Excess & Obsolete, LIFO and LCM.
  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of weekly/monthly/quarterly financial analysis schedules in order to predict current and future financial performance.
  • Track actual progress toward the forecast, reporting on all variances and potential for changes.
  • Research the economic climate for factors potentially impacting the company’s performance.
  • Adhere to all SOX requirements
  • Accomplishes any additional tasks, as appropriate.
