As a Sr. Facilities Fire Engineer at Lockheed Martin Space's Sunnyvale Campus in CA, you will provide project management and construction support in the Facilities Operations & Services Project Implementation Organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience in fire protection engineering for industrial, lab, or large commercial facilities.
  • Deep familiarity with NFPA standards (13, 25, 72, 2001, etc.), CA Fire Code, and coordination with AHJs.
  • Experience with fire alarm systems, suppression systems, fire water supply, and fire modeling tools.
  • Ability to communicate technical requirements effectively across engineering, operations, and construction teams.
  • Familiarity with all forms of fire alarms, their hardware, initiating devices (detectors, etc.), notification appliances (horn/strobes) and reporting capabilities (communications with the SOC, etc.).
  • Experience with troubleshooting alarm systems and the ability to differentiate between an 'in-house' repair/inspection and a repair/inspection that would need to be contracted out.
  • Experience and familiarity with Compliance Engine and the ability to submit data into the system.
  • Experience navigating Office products.

  • Proficient in Siemens MXL Fire Alarm Panels, and Johnson Controls (JCI) Mastermind software.

  • Read/interpret engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of fire and life safety systems including design standards, system health, upgrades, and compliance.
  • Ensure long-term fire protection integrity, mitigate operational risk, and serve as the primary technical authority for cross-functional support on capital projects and facility modifications.
  • Develop, maintain, and revise site-wide fire protection design standards, ensuring alignment with current NFPA codes, state and local fire codes, and corporate EHS requirements.
  • Evaluate and direct the replacement of aging fire systems, including fire alarm panels, suppression systems (e.g., sprinklers, gaseous, foam), detection systems, and monitoring infrastructure.
  • Provide technical oversight during design, construction, and commissioning phases for all fire protection scope in capital and tenant-improvement projects.
  • Coordinate directly with external fire design consultants, contractors, AHJs, and internal stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of code-compliant and maintainable solutions.
  • Serve as a technical representative for the fire technician team during design reviews, construction walk-throughs, and vendor scoping meetings.
  • Conduct periodic risk assessments and fire systems audits, supporting documentation and reporting for insurance and EHS compliance.
  • Support root-cause analysis of system failures or impairments and recommend long-term solutions.
  • Maintain the fire system as-built library and associated documentation, including commissioning records, inspection logs, and impairment plans.
