Designs components or portions of a system of components to develop or improve existing products while reducing cost, enhancing performance, or facilitating manufacturing operations. Designs products or systems of moderate to difficult scope and complexity. Creates assemblies and drawings using computer-aided design tools and provides related technical support and coordination.

  • Under direction of design or project engineers, develops assigned portions of design by analyzing product specifications, performance requirements, and existing manufacturing capability.
  • Prepares product or system layouts, detailed drawings, and assembly drawings by using computer-aided design tools and following industry and drawing standards.
  • Reviews drawings and layouts prepared by others to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications.
  • May conduct routine analyses and/or tests pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials or processes.
  • Recommends changes to refine and enhance products and process by applying continuous improvement principles and techniques.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing industry networks.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements.
  • Shares specialized knowledge with others and represents the Company on specific projects.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Manages configuration portion of product life-cycle management tools.
  • Associates degree (AS) in Engineering or Two-Year Technical Degree and 5-7 years of related experience desired.
  • Extensive knowledge of drafting principles, concepts, and techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of design and drawing practices, tolerancing and use of computer-aided design and basic engineering analysis tools.
  • Proficient in use of 2D CAD/CAM and 3D CAD/CAM wireframe and solids work, specifically in Siemens NX CAD Design software.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to work with and mentor engineers and engineering designers.
  • General knowledge of aerospace industry or similar industry products and legal and regulatory requirements related to manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals and policies.
  • Ability to work on complex assignments where independent action and a high degree of initiative are required.
  • Possesses interpersonal skills suitable for frequent interface with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to team members, team leaders, and top management.
  • Ability to research and analyze data and develop recommendations or resolve problems.
  • Ability to create detailed task lists with timelines and work to a project schedule.
  • Ability to participate in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to manage and delegate low-level tasks.
