This role will be filled in a hybrid capacity, with collaboration taking place in our Columbus OH office 2 days (Monday and Tuesday) per week. We are seeking a Senior Engineer, Software Engineer (Test Automation Developer) to join our Codebenders line, supporting the Telematics Smart Products Experience at Nationwide. This role will focus on test automation for large, diverse, multi-system initiatives, driving quality and efficiency across complex integrations. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will focus primarily on providing high quality, efficient technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications. In this capacity, you’ll analyze, code, configure, test, debug, document and maintain applications.

  • Design and implement test automation frameworks for multi-system projects.
  • Perform card-level testing, test case planning, and optimize test efficiencies.
  • Coordinate dependencies across teams and ensure seamless integration testing.
  • Contribute to test community forums, sharing best practices and leveraging AI-driven solutions for test expansion and effectiveness.
  • Analyzes, solutions, develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards and best practices.
  • Applies secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Uses DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques.
  • Drives continuous improvement and learning through ongoing training, practice and innovation.
  • Manages project priorities, deadlines and deliverables proactively.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Strong automation mindset with proven experience in test automation development.
  • Hands-on experience with Ruby/Cucumber and other automation tools.
  • Proficiency in API testing (Postman or similar tools).
  • Experience with Kafka validation and automation.
  • Solid understanding of test planning, execution, and dependency coordination.
  • Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree.
  • Two or more years of analysis and technology experience.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to tackle moderately sophisticated business and development problems.
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment.
  • Working knowledge of defect tracking tool/s
  • Experience with CI/CD integration for automated test pipelines.
  • Familiarity with AI-based testing approaches for efficiency and coverage.
  • Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.
