Our team's main objective is to develop and deploy automation capabilities for Seagate's Systems Organization. Our focus is on automated firmware test development, test infrastructure, and lab support. As a Lab Manager, you will support advanced Data Storage Systems labs used to develop and test Seagate's extensive product line of storage array solutions. You will facilitate lab operations and maintenance/troubleshooting of both the hardware and software infrastructure used by the Systems organization. Your responsibilities will include configuring and providing equipment for engineers to work on customer issues, building up and checking out units prior to shipment, installing hardware, Operating Systems, and Firmware, maintaining IT security requirements, managing inventory, and coordinating with IT and Facilities on lab improvements.

  • Support advanced Data Storage Systems labs used to develop and test Seagate's extensive product line of storage array solutions
  • Facilitate lab operations and maintenance/troubleshooting of both the hardware and software infrastructure used by the Systems organization
  • Configure and provide equipment for engineers to work on customer issues for replication and assistance in resolving field issues
  • Build up and check out units prior to shipment to Seagate customers and maintain equipment used remotely by customers
  • Install hardware, Operating Systems, and Firmware. Bring up systems from bare metal to functional
  • Maintain IT security requirements for all supported systems
  • Work with IT to resolve networking, ports access, applications access, and firewall issues
  • Work on hardware setups for new programs
  • Manage inventory & availability of hardware as well as capital & asset tracking
  • Utilize organizational and communication skills to actively coordinate with IT and Facilities on physical Lab improvements, Security, and compliance initiatives
  • Thrive in a dynamic lab environment where incoming work requests can be fast paced and unpredictable
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn and work independently with different engineering teams to help drive lab issues to closure
  • Working in a lab environment with hardware/firmware
  • Scripting/automation skills (including Python, BASH, etc.)
  • Understanding of computer architecture and components (knowledge of storage systems, RAID, SAS/FC/iSCSI interfaces and hard drive technology a plus)
  • Ability to diagnose the root cause of computer system failure and isolate the components/failure nodes
  • Understanding of hardware and software interactions; able to apply this understanding to resolve issues
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related programs of study and 5+ years of experience, or Master's degree in similar fields of study and 3+ years of experience, or PHD and 0+ years of experience or equivalent education and experience
  • Experience with provisioning and troubleshooting storage and networking devices
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (Docker, KVM, VMWare etc.) and Operating Systems
  • Experience with inventory management and purchasing
  • Experience interfacing with IT when resolving networking issues
  • Knowledge of Seagate's storage systems hardware and its applications
