About The Position

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit. We are seeking a Senior Engineer to design and develop advanced avionics systems for the satellite platforms. This role will serve as a key technical contributor, supporting system-level architecture, hardware integration, and flight qualification across multidisciplinary teams. The ideal candidate brings deep e xpertise in embedded systems, space-rated electronics, and autonomous spacecraft interfaces, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where innovation meets mission-critical execution.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in satellite avionics engineering
  • Proven ex pertise i n avionics architecture, embedded systems, and space-rated electronics.
  • Hands-on experience with flight computers, embedded controllers, sensors, actuators, and FPGA-based systems.
  • Strong understanding of radiation tolerance, EEE part selection , and EMI/EMC compliance.
  • Familiarity with PCB design tools, embedded software environments, and space qualification processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting satellite avionics programs from concept through launch and operations.
  • Background in fault detection, redundancy strategies, and system-level reliability modeling.
  • Experience evaluating third-party avionics solutions for integration or trade vs in-house development.
  • Publications or patents in the field of satellite avionics or spaceflight technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement satellite avionics architectures, including flight computers, embedded controllers, and autonomous system interfaces.
  • Develop subsystem requirements and interface control documents (ICDs) for avionics components, including sensors and actuators.
  • Select and qualify EEE parts for space environments, ensuring radiation tolerance and mission compliance.
  • Support PCB design, FPGA integration, and EMI/EMC mitigation strategies for flight hardware.
  • Collaborate with systems, software, propulsion, and mission operations teams to ensure alignment with program goals.
  • Participate in environmental qualification and flight software integration for avionics subsystems.
  • Contribute to design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and ensure technical artifacts meet quality and compliance standards.
  • Provide technical mentorship and peer review within the avionics engineering team.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
