The Senior Mechanical Engineer serves as a key technical leader within the Enterprise Capital Engineering organization, providing mechanical engineering and project leadership to drive successful capital project execution. This role is responsible for leading the development, design, and implementation of select capital projects, ensuring that equipment and system solutions meet business needs for capacity, capability, innovation, safety, and obsolescence mitigation. This role will oversee all phases of capital project delivery—including conceptual layout, detailed design, value engineering, procurement support, installation, commissioning, and optimization—while ensuring alignment with technical standards, cost targets, and schedule expectations. Success in this role requires strong cross-functional collaboration. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will partner closely with Supply Chain, R&D, Procurement, Finance, manufacturing sites, OEM equipment suppliers, technical service providers, and construction contractors to deliver robust, efficient, and innovative mechanical solutions that enable long-term operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or relevant discipline (e.g. Science or Engineering related)
  • 10+ years of related technical experience in mill, production or manufacturing operations and/or capital project management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the following Mechanical Engineering competencies: Project Management, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Machine/Prototype Design, Engineering Economics, Stress Analysis, Dynamic Systems, Heat Transfer/Thermodynamics, Computer Analysis/Simulation, Fluid Mechanics, Material Science
  • Able to teach mechanical & technical competencies and project management skills to junior engineers.
  • Strong fundamentals in engineering systems and tools to drive technical innovation.
  • Proven ability to establish strong, effective cross-functional network.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to adapt to rapidly changing business priorities and assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or to lead a team to complete projects within required timeframe and budget.
  • Ability to lead and direct a diverse team of KC and external personnel to define and execute projects that successfully meet business objectives.

  • paper experience, ideally subject matter expertise in tissue machine and/or converting operations.
  • Key technology areas include: Tissue Manufacturing - stock prep, wastewater, chemical handling, power/utilities, and tissue machine operations.
  • Tissue Converting - Unwinding, rewinding, calendaring, coating, folding, cutting, conveying, wrapping, bundling, cartooning, case packing, and palletizing.
  • Wipes Manufacturing & Converting – Airlaid, Sanitary Manufacturing, Sanitary Converting technologies and processes

Responsibilities

  • Drive the development and execution of capital projects using the KC NA Project Management Practices (PMP) process as projects are assigned.
  • Provide leadership by example in safety, ethics, quality, regulatory, and sustainability, and ensure that all elements of the corporate Human Resources Development and Diversity policy are fully supported.
  • Coach and mentor team members to increase technical understanding and ability to execute programs to improve Family Care’s business results.
  • Effectively collaborate with a cross-functional team that includes R&D, Supply Chain, mill operations, procurement, equipment suppliers and external service providers.
  • Maintain technical and scientific expertise in an area of technology and communicate impact of developments on Kimberly-Clark. This may include serving as a User Group lead in a specific area of technology or skill to drive learning as well as strategy for future projects/initiatives.
  • Prepare and implement unit budgets and schedules.
  • Implement appropriate internal controls and standards to ensure compliance with applicable policies, laws and regulations.
  • Conceive, develop, validate, and share ideas leading to new or improved products, processes, materials, systems or scientific knowledge aligned with business unit objectives.
  • Drive a culture of protected and documented innovation to protect and defend K-C proprietary technology, products, and business processes through appropriate use of patents and trade secrets. This includes completing required project documentation through EFS, EDR, and Appropriation activities and following PMP documentation including Corporate Financial Instructions (CFIs).
