As a Sr. Camera Hardware Engineer at Otto Aerospace, you will lead the development of advanced camera and sensor systems for the Phantom 3500 SuperNatural Vision Infotainment System. This role involves tracking top-level features, requirements, and specifications for camera and sensor integration, managing vendor engagements, and driving the engineering development and review of design for all hardware and software components related to imaging and sensing technologies. You will also be responsible for capturing and tracking system requirements, including image quality, sensor calibration, data transmission and processing requirements, and thermal performance. Additionally, you will manage interface definitions between camera and sensor systems and aircraft systems, including the Cabin Management System and avionics. This position requires a strong background in camera and sensor engineering, with experience in shipping high-quality, user-facing imaging and sensing technology products. The SuperNatural Vision (SNV) team at Otto Aerospace is dedicated to developing cutting-edge cabin interior systems that enhance the in-flight experience for passengers. Our team is responsible for the design, development, and integration of the Phantom 3500 SuperNatural Vision Infotainment System, including all hardware, software, and AI/ML engineering.

  • Track top-level features, requirements, and specifications for camera and sensor integration within SNV.
  • Drive and manage vendor engagement for all aspects of camera and sensor systems and related technologies.
  • Capture and track system requirements, including image quality, sensor calibration, data transmission and processing requirements, and thermal performance.
  • Drive aviation certification program related to all camera and sensor technologies.
  • Drive engineering development and review of design for all hardware, including camera/sensor, main computing platform, and display engineering components.
  • Manage interface definitions between camera and sensor systems and aircraft systems, including SNV, Cabin Management System and avionics.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Applied Physics or a related field.
  • 7+ years in camera and sensor engineering roles for shipped/released products in the aviation, consumer electronics, or related industries.
  • Demonstrated success shipping high-quality, consumer-facing imaging and sensing products from concept through certification and release.
  • Experience defining and managing system architecture, requirements, and interfaces for complex electronics platforms, including IFE and avionics-grade systems.
  • Strong cross-disciplinary hardware integration experience across: Display and touch systems SoCs, board-level design, and system I/O Camera systems and optical sensors Inertial sensors Audio subsystems (microphones and speakers) Operating systems and application-layer integration
  • Proven ability to lead technical programs and/or teams in the development and integration of imaging systems.
  • Deep expertise in camera system design, sensor selection, optics integration, and tuning for production hardware environments.
  • Strong understanding of image signal processing (ISP), image quality tuning, and computer vision fundamentals as applied to embedded systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex hardware-software interaction issues using analytical, system-level debugging techniques.
  • Experience with sensor bring-up, calibration, and validation methodologies across varying environmental conditions.
  • Familiarity with embedded imaging pipelines, data interfaces, and performance optimization.
  • Personal interest in aviation and aircraft systems design.
