Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from accredited law school.
  • Admission and active license in good standing to practice law in Arizona or other State bar.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant legal experience at a law firm or as in house counsel.
  • Demonstrated expertise in federal, state and municipal employment laws and regulations and experience providing advice and counsel to management and human resource professionals and representing clients in employment related litigation and administrative matters.
  • Ability to define legal issues and legal risks.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills to build partnerships and alliances internally and with external partners.
  • Unyielding commitment to highest professional ethics.
  • Background and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in the banking and/or consumer financial services industries.
  • Prior in-house experience as an employment advisory attorney.
  • Proactive self-starter with demonstrated experience identifying and resolving legal issues quickly and effectively, with an ability to make real-time decisions with imperfect information.
  • Strong business acumen—the ability to be forward-thinking and innovative while understanding our business needs and limitations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides impactful, solution oriented legal advice to management and HR on a range of issues, including employee and labor relations, discipline, terminations, investigations, and litigation, ensuring compliance with Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, Affirmative Action, Equal Pay, Employee Privacy, FLSA, OSHA, Immigration, PWFA, and ERISA.
  • Works with colleagues within the legal and business teams across the organization to proactively identify and develop strategies to mitigate legal risk associated with business operations.
  • Responds to demand letters, wage claims, and employment-related charges filed with municipal, state or federal enforcement agencies (e.g., EEOC, DOL, OFCCP, DOJ, OSHA) and courts and oversee the defense of matters by outside counsel.
  • Proactively manages litigation and administrative charges, assessing cases and mitigating risks to protect company interests in line with business objectives and risk tolerance.
  • Prepares separation, severance and settlement agreements.
  • Provides advice and counsel in the development of best-in-class company policies, procedures, guidelines, standards and other practices designed to ensure compliance with applicable labor, employment and benefits related laws and regulations.
  • Leads training for management and human resources professionals on compliance with applicable state and federal labor and employment laws and regulations.
  • Oversees and provides advisory support with respect to the company's responses to subpoenas, third-party discovery (including government agency and law enforcement) and other legal service of process.
  • Responds to complaints and inquiries from Federal and State regulatory agencies (including state attorneys general).
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the legal department and company.
  • Supports the company's commitment to protect the integrity and confidentiality of systems and data.
