Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Sr Electrician / Maintenance Mechanic for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). The position works independently in a “zone”, or as the only Electrician/Maintenance Mechanic on a particular campus reporting directly to a second line supervisor, or guides and instructs a group of Electrician/Maintenance Mechanics in the performance of a wide range of electrical and mechanical duties required for all University facilities. Such duties may be based on work orders which provide little or no instruction or assistance. Responsible for the estimation of work and procuring appropriate materials for him/herself or the group. May guide and instruct craft trainees. May perform any duties of the group. May be assigned to perform general duties in other trade areas. Among the key duties of this position are the following: Primarily responsible for the planning and coordination of such electrical duties as the installation and repair of wiring, fixtures, lighting, control and alarm systems, etc. Repairs and maintains generators and motors. Installs electrical conduits. Performs the duties of Electrician/Maintenance Mechanic. Assists in work on switch gear and wiring for 480 volts systems. Cleans shop and work areas. Detects faulty operation of equipment; reports questionable conditions to supervisor; issues work orders to supervisor as necessary. Conducts inventory of equipment, materials, and supplies. Advises management when to reorder stock. Responsible for estimating work time, writing up lists of appropriate and needed materials, and providing such materials for him/herself or the group. Performs related duties as required. Provides guidance and instruction to craft trainees. If not in a group leading situation, works in a zone or is the only Electrician/Maintenance Mechanic on a particular campus. Responsible for the repair and maintenance of University equipment and facilities, supplies and materials, and prioritizing and estimating work. Notifies supervisor of any emergent problems discovered through performance of assigned duties. Secondarily responsible for planning and performing repair and preventive maintenance duties for various types of University property and equipment. The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.
