About The Position

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to lead our advanced power systems for battery testing. This role will involve designing, building, test and validation of our comprehensive test systems, including PCBA cyclers, battery cyclers and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) battery emulators. The ideal candidate will be a technical expert in electrical circuits, system designing and selecting parts where our test systems meet the highest standards of performance, safety, and reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Knowledge of industry standard test automation tools and experience developing product test frameworks
  • 5+ years of experience in test systems design, including cycler and emulator development, power supply design, and component sizing.
  • Proven expertise in custom test setup development for components and system level.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical testing equipment and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in schematic design, electrical drawings, and system-level verification processes.
  • Strong experience with multiple communication protocols, including CAN, SPI, I2C, and others
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with aerospace, automotive, or other high-reliability battery systems.
  • Familiarity with industry standards for battery testing and safety (e.g., IEC, UL, SAE).
  • Expertise in battery safety testing, thermal management, and failure analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, selection, and development of battery cyclers and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) battery emulators for space applications
  • Collaborate on power supply selection, component sizing, and overall system architecture to ensure high performance, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Design custom boards for battery cyclers and emulators, working closely with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Size electrical components such as current sensors, harnesses, gauges, and other critical battery-related hardware.
  • Execute electrical tests on battery systems, including PCBA testing, system verification, and custom test setup design.
  • Build and configure test setups to test thermistors, heaters, short circuits, and other electrical components of the battery system.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and internal quality controls in the design and testing of battery systems.
  • Provide guidance and technical expertise to junior engineers and cross-functional teams involved in the battery development process.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of battery system failures during testing and provide solutions for redesign or system improvements.
  • Collaborate on the development, implementation, and execution of battery testing strategies, including functional, safety, and performance testing of battery systems for space applications.
  • This role may require occasional travel for different locations, third party labs, vendors, or meetings as needed, up to 20% of the time
  • This role requires the physical ability to lift and move up to 25 lbs, including frequent bending, reaching, and standing, if needed.
