About The Position

PBF Energy Inc. (NYSE:PBF) is one of the largest independent refiners in North America, operating, through its subsidiaries, oil refineries and related facilities. We have an opportunity at our Martinez Refinery in California and are seeking a talented Sr. Electrical (Power) Engineer to join our team as a pivotal member that would play a key role here at PBF Energy. The Sr. Electrical (Power) Engineer assures safe, cost-effective electrical system reliability and integrity. The successful candidate will work with Electrical Inspectors on long-term objectives and day-to-day troubleshooting of refinery electrical equipment which includes 15kV, 4160V, 2300V and 480V distribution equipment, synchronous and induction motors, starters, fans/blowers, etc, as well as provide technical support to the on-site cogeneration unit.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution
  • 5 years or greater experience in refinery, petrochemical, power generation, or equivalent industrial electrical design, repair, and maintenance.
  • Familiar with electrical system modeling and performance analysis.
  • Familiar with national codes and standards such as IEEE, API, NEMA, NFPA, and NEC.
  • Work Schedule: During occasional high maintenance events (TA, Project Execution, Overhauls) an altered work schedule over an extended period may be required.
  • Participate in the refinery on-call Electrical Team duty rotation schedule for off-hours support.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in troubleshooting, analyzing, and resolving complex electrical problems.
  • Experience with design, specification, and procuring of electrical equipment and systems. i.e., switchgear, motors, heat tracing, UPS, batteries, cathodic protection, motor operated valves, transformers, breakers, relays, temporary generators.
  • Experience with NFPA 70B (Recommended Practice for Electrical Equipment Maintenance) and executing substation maintenance outages.
  • Experience with Power system modeling including studies of load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, transient motor starting, and arc flash.
  • Experience with hazardous area classification, API RP-500.
  • Familiarity with SKM modeling software, electrical distribution equipment, one-line drawings, experience programing Schweitzer relays, electrical area classification, and knowledge of project life cycle or experience managing projects is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support Goal Zero performance as safety leader by assuring compliance with site electrical safety standards, process safety fundamentals, and regulations such as NFPA 70E, OSHA Subpart S, and OSHA 1910.269
  • Educating and mentoring others on technical details of electrical safety, electrical power generation, electrical power distribution and electrical equipment best practices.
  • Applying electrical technical knowledge to support: Design, repair, and maintenance of electrical distribution equipment (breakers, relay upgrades) and utilization equipment (motors, starters, VFD, etc).
  • Review and development of switching instructions, electrical procedures, and preventative maintenance plans.
  • Management of change review and documentation.
  • Elimination of repeat failures, including root cause analysis and risk analysis.
  • Evaluating current electrical reliability risks and developing infrastructure upgrade plans, capital projects, and turnaround work packages for execution to mitigate the risks. This task will include interacting with internal and external personnel in scope development, cost-benefit analysis, procurement of electrical equipment, and field execution.
  • Working with crafts and the business team to support electrical system troubleshooting, field commissioning, and performance monitoring to ensure operability, environmental compliance, and process safety.
  • Supporting turnarounds by developing work scope, drafting execution plans, and providing technical support during planned outages in the field.
  • Ensuring assigned projects comply with all applicable company and electrical industry standards and recommendations throughout all phases of the project, e.g., NEC, IEEE, ANSI, NFPA, API, NEMA, etc.
  • Providing daily run and maintain technical and field support to various refinery production plants, utility plants, the electrical distribution network, and a 98.5MW cogeneration facility.
