About the position

The Sr. Electrical Reliability Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-efficient operation of electrical power distribution systems within a plant. This role involves applying engineering principles to identify, analyze, and resolve electrical issues, as well as leading improvements in electrical infrastructure and managing capital project plans. The engineer will also oversee safety procedures, conduct analyses of electrical assets, and participate in the development of specifications and maintenance programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coverage for low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems including switch gear, motor control centers, transformers, VFD's, UPS Systems, and DC Systems.
  • Update and manage site single line electrical drawings.
  • Lead site arc flash analysis and evaluate changes in electrical infrastructure for safety.
  • Develop and manage multi-year capital project plans for electrical infrastructure improvements.
  • Conduct electrical coordination studies to ensure safety of systems and personnel.
  • Work with Maintenance and Project Engineering to ensure reliability and maintainability of installations.
  • Participate in the development of design and installation specifications and commissioning plans.
  • Develop acceptance tests and inspection criteria for equipment and service providers.
  • Lead predictive and non-destructive testing methodologies to identify reliability problems.
  • Review and maintain electrical safety procedures and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Develop engineering solutions to repetitive failures affecting plant operations.
  • Assist in root cause failure analysis on critical equipment failures.
  • Review project design packages for reliability and safety compliance.
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of the preventative maintenance program.
  • Develop and maintain electrical equipment specifications for purchasing and operation.
  • Provide various reports as needed.
  • Maintain a professional image to clients and vendors.
  • Initiate and follow through Management of Change (MOC) processes.
  • Be available 24/7 on short notice to support plant operations and work extended hours during outages.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • 10+ years of experience preferred, particularly in continuous process industries like chemicals or oil refining.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience with capital projects and electrical equipment selection.
  • Commissioning electrical equipment experience is a plus.
  • Experience in SAP or similar maintenance programs is a plus.
  • Experience in Arc Flash Analysis is required.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NFPA 70B is required.
  • Knowledge and experience with NETA and IEEE preferred.
  • Experience with electrical testing technologies preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is a plus.
  • Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) is a plus.
  • Security Clearance Requirements: Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC).
