This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design. This position is in Blue Origin's Avionics Center of Excellence - As part of a diverse avionics team, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers to deliver avionics hardware subsystem elements, including common circuit blocks and development kits. As part of this team, you will design, develop, and verify high-performance avionics hardware for incorporation in various flight vehicles. Together with programs' technical leads you will drive requirements definition, modeling, analysis, design, fabrication, and test of flight and power management components and subsystems elements. Your responsibilities will encompass electronic requirements, architecture concepts, detailed design, development, and test.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers to deliver avionics hardware subsystem elements.
  • Design, develop, and verify high-performance avionics hardware for incorporation in various flight vehicles.
  • Drive requirements definition, modeling, analysis, design, fabrication, and test of flight and power management components and subsystems elements.
  • Oversee electronic requirements, architecture concepts, detailed design, development, and test.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 10+ proven years experience in the design of complex hardware.
  • Skilled Altium user.
  • Experience in high-speed digital, analog, and/or mixed-signal circuit design, build, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of EE principles.
  • Experience in circuit analysis and simulation, such as worst-case circuit analysis, signal integrity analysis, and logic or Spice simulation.
  • Experience in grounding and general board layout principles, including EMI/EMC tradeoffs.
  • Experience with battery-based power systems, including power management, power switching, charging, and battery safety.
  • Experience in computer command and I/O control for sophisticated industrial systems or vehicles.
  • Experience in RF communication subsystem and/or component design.
  • Background developing sophisticated circuit cards, consumer electronics, wireless devices, or other advanced electronic commercial or aerospace products.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to an inclusive culture.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Physics, or related subject areas.
  • 15+ years proven experience in design, development, integration, test, and operation of Avionics systems or vehicles.
