Sr. Electrical Design Engineer

KLAMilpitas, CA

About The Position

KLA is seeking an Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical and interconnect architecture in advanced semiconductor equipment! This role will define and drive the system-level architecture for power and signal distribution across the tool, with primary ownership of interconnection diagrams, IO rack concepts, motion-drive interfaces, and cable architecture. The ideal candidate brings deep prior experience in complex capital equipment or similarly multidisciplinary systems, and is able to translate system requirements into robust, manufacturable, serviceable, and safe electrical implementations. This engineer will also perform CAD work for the overall routing architecture, directly support detailed mechanical design, and guide support teams in routing cables and related hardware.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Significant experience in system-level electrical architecture for complex equipment, including power and signal distribution, interconnection diagrams, IO architecture, motion-drive interfaces, and cable/harness implementation.
  • Ability to lead the overall routing architecture and translate top-level system requirements into robust, manufacturable, serviceable, and safe implementations across multiple subsystems.
  • Hands-on experience performing CAD / ECAD work, including development and maintenance of routing, interconnect, and interface design content; experience with Creo and Zuken E3 is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work across electrical, mechanical, controls, software, manufacturing, and service teams, and to guide external contributors or contractors supporting cable routing and design execution.
  • Doctorate (Academic) Degree and related work experience of 3 years; Master's Level Degree and related work experience of 6 years; Bachelor's Level Degree and related work experience of 8 years

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with MBSE is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the system‑level electrical routing architecture, including power distribution strategy, cable architecture, interface partitioning, rack‑level organization, and system interconnect definitions.
  • Define, develop, and maintain authoritative interconnection diagrams (ICDs) gathering subsystem interfaces, device connectivity, power requirements, and logical disconnection concepts for manufacturing, installation, and service.
  • Perform power distribution, signal conditioning, signal integrity, grounding, shielding, and overall electrical architecture design at the system level.
  • Architect and coordinate IO racks, motion‑drive interfaces, cable breakouts, routing concepts, and chassis / IO panel definitions in collaboration with electrical, mechanical, controls, and system engineering teams.
  • Perform hands‑on CAD work to develop and maintain routing architecture, interconnect definitions, and supporting design data, primarily using Creo and Zuken.
  • Translate top‑level system requirements into subsystem electrical requirements, interface specifications, and implementation constraints, ensuring cross-discipline alignment.
  • Lead system‑level trade studies and design decisions related to routing strategy, connector standardization, grounding, shielding, service breakpoints, and manufacturability.
  • Guide and review routing and CAD implementation work by support teams, ensuring consistency with system architecture, standards, serviceability, and safety requirements.
  • Drive multi-functional design reviews and partner with subsystem owners to ensure interface data is complete, accurate, and verified prior to detailed design and release.
  • Support prototype build, integration, bring‑up, troubleshooting, and productization, contributing to system documentation, test plans, and reusable design guidelines for high‑volume production.

Benefits

  • KLA’s total rewards package for employees may also include participation in performance incentive programs and eligibility for additional benefits including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, life, and other voluntary benefits, 401(K) including company matching, employee stock purchase program (ESPP), student debt assistance, tuition reimbursement program, development and career growth opportunities and programs, financial planning benefits, wellness benefits including an employee assistance program (EAP), paid time off and paid company holidays, and family care and bonding leave.
  • Interns are eligible for some of the benefits listed.
