About the position

The Sr. Electrical Design Engineer at Amazon Web Services (AWS) is responsible for designing and overseeing the electrical systems for data centers. This role involves collaborating with various engineering disciplines to create construction documents, ensuring compliance with regulations, and supporting the construction process from concept to completion. The engineer will work on multi-million dollar projects, focusing on resilient and cost-effective electrical distribution systems while driving continuous improvements and innovations in design.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems for data centers and collaborate with other engineering disciplines to create construction document sets.
  • Create designs that meet quality and budgetary requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes by working with local agencies.
  • Review and approve equipment submittals.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support during construction phases.
  • Work with commissioning teams to test and validate electrical systems' installation and performance.
  • Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions.
  • Travel to sites for reviews and provide engineering evaluations and audits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or 12+ years of relevant electrical experience.
  • 7+ years of experience with industrial or commercial electrical design.
  • 9+ years of experience developing design documentation for construction and/or permitting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineering License and knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.
  • Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment.
  • Creative problem-solving skills to find innovative solutions that reduce costs without impacting quality.
  • Detailed understanding of uninterruptible power sources, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, and power distribution units.
  • Experience with fast track design/build projects and large-scale technical operations.
