About The Position

The primary objective of the Sr. Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Specialist is to protect the safety of employees and environmental sustainability through training, engagement, and compliance to drive and sustain a culture where safety, health and environment are valued. This role will set EHS strategies, implement against the plan, and evaluate outcomes. This is an opportunity to impact and shape the EHS function in a chemical manufacturing environment. The position will be based out of the Logan Township, NJ office.

Requirements

  • BS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or Occupational Environmental Health and Safety
  • Minimum of 5 years' in an EHS role with in a chemical manufacturing facility
  • Experienced with chemical process safety, lab safety, safe handling of hazardous materials and employee health as it relates to chemical exposure.
  • Track record of establishing productive partnerships with all levels of employees and management, demonstrating ability to educate, gain understanding and participation, and communicate effectively
  • Risk Management Plan (RMP) experience
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to present to all levels of the organization, in large and small groups
  • Specific experience in some or all of the following EHS compliance areas including, but not limited to, DOT, EPA, ATF, DEP, OSHA, GHS, FDA, RCRA, TSCA, FMCSA, ASME, etc.
  • Working knowledge of ISO
  • Microsoft Office proficiency, especially Excel (Pivot Tables & V-Lookup)
  • Must be willing to work periodic workdays in excess of eight hours
  • Ability to be on-call 24/7
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US and will not require sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing knowledge and experience preferred
  • CIH, CSP, CCPSC, or related certifications preferred
  • Knowledge of non-hazardous and hazardous waste and waste management
  • SDS authoring experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops an EHS culture rooted in all employees.
  • Actively participates in management team and effectively coaches and develops operations supervision to be effective EHS coaches.
  • Drives EHS performance by developing EHS strategies, programs and plans.
  • Establishes priorities, drivers and activities with KPIs and is hands-on with leading, coaching, and teamwork.
  • Ensures compliance with continuous state of audit ready.
  • Responsible for implementation of necessary systems, processes and procedures, including management of change.
  • Effective risk assessment and elimination to ensure effective identification, investigation, root cause, corrective action, injury compliance, continuous improvement, and communication to mitigate hazards.
  • Develops EHS knowledge and skills through hands-on support, coaching and feedback to employees and management.
  • Develops content and delivery of EHS training.
  • Communicates EHS awareness of performance, trends, initiatives, and concepts.
  • Provides technical expertise support to key functions on initiatives including Engineering, Operations, HR, Quality, etc. to deliver on outcomes and plans
