About The Position

A Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for ensuring that an organization complies with environmental, health, and safety regulations while promoting a safe and healthy workplace for employees. This role typically involves overseeing the development, implementation, and monitoring of EHS programs and policies to prevent accidents, injuries, and environmental hazards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental health and safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar credentials are preferred.
  • OSHA 30-hour or 40-hour certification.
  • At least 8-10 years of experience in EHS management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or managerial role.
  • Proven track record of managing environmental health and safety programs in manufacturing, construction, or similar industries.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
  • Familiarity with environmental management systems (EMS), ISO 14001, or similar.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Proficient in using EHS management software and tools.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to conduct site inspections and walk through manufacturing or industrial facilities.
  • Ability to lift to 25 lbs. occasionally.
  • May require standing for extended periods or traveling to multiple locations.

Responsibilities

  • EHS Program Development & Management:
  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive environmental health and safety programs that ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Continuously monitor and improve EHS policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant workplace.
  • Lead the design and implementation of safety training programs for employees at all levels, ensuring employees understand EHS regulations and best practices.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable regulations.
  • Conduct regular audits of company operations to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations and standards.
  • Manage environmental permitting, reporting, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Risk Assessment & Hazard Analysis:
  • Conduct risk assessments, safety inspections, and job hazard analyses to identify potential safety and environmental risks in operations.
  • Recommend corrective actions and solutions to minimize risks and hazards.
  • Maintain and update safety data sheets (SDS) and ensure proper labeling of hazardous materials.
  • Incident Reporting & Investigation:
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all safety incidents and EHS violations and submit reports to regulatory agencies as required.
  • Lead and participate in safety drills, mock emergency response scenarios, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Training & Awareness:
  • Conduct regular safety and environmental training programs for all employees, ensuring awareness of potential hazards and emergency response procedures.
  • Stay current with industry trends and regulations, and ensure the organization remains proactive in adopting best practices.
  • Promote a safety culture across all departments and leadership levels.
  • Environmental Management:
  • Oversee waste management, pollution control, and sustainable environmental practices within the company.
  • Develop strategies to reduce energy consumption, waste production, and environmental impact.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and work towards sustainability goals.
  • Leadership & Team Collaboration:
  • Lead a team of EHS professionals, providing guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
  • Collaborate with other departments (HR, Operations, Maintenance) to promote a culture of safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Report regularly to senior management on the status of EHS programs, audits, and compliance issues.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Analyze safety performance data and develop strategies to reduce injury rates and improve overall safety culture.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety systems, practices, and policies.
  • Foster a mindset of continuous improvement in EHS practices.
