Southern California Public Radio (SCPR), the home of KPCC, LAist, and LAist Studios, is seeking a Senior Editor to lead a dedicated team of reporters focused on watchdog journalism. This role is pivotal in managing a small team tasked with holding local government and powerful institutions accountable, particularly in a region where cutbacks in the news industry have left many areas unwatched. The Senior Editor will oversee the production of high-impact investigations and daily enterprise reporting, ensuring that the team produces no fewer than eight stories each month. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in multimedia work, including audio content for daily news broadcasts and digital content for the SCPR website. The Senior Editor will think strategically about guiding reporters to create content that is unique to Los Angeles, reflecting the organization's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This position requires a collaborative approach, working closely with other newsrooms and community members to enhance the quality and relevance of the reporting. In this role, the Senior Editor will shape ideas, deepen reporting, and explore creative storytelling methods across various platforms, including radio, digital, social media, and live events. The candidate should have a proven track record in reporting, writing, and editing in-depth enterprise or investigative stories that reveal wrongdoing and injustice. Additionally, the Senior Editor will be responsible for analyzing data, guiding public records requests, and ensuring that grant-funded projects meet their deliverables. The Senior Editor will also participate in training sessions for the newsroom, encourage creativity and high standards, and represent LAist at public events. This position is essential for fostering a culture of engaged journalism, where audience interaction is prioritized throughout the reporting process, leading to coverage that resonates with community concerns.
