About The Position

At Workday, we are on a mission to change the way business deals get done. Our innovative AI technology simplifies contract management, enabling contract professionals to become their company's superheroes. As a Senior Distributed Systems (DevOps) engineer, you will work on cloud platform technologies (AWS, GCP) and implement tools to automate maintenance and support our engineering environments. You will collaborate closely with our Platform Engineering team to deploy changes to our engineering environments, ensuring verification of these changes.

Requirements

• 7+ years of DevOps experience.
• 5+ years of database administration experience (Postgres, MariaDB, MSSQL).
• 4+ years of experience orchestrating large scale distributed microservice deployments on Kubernetes and EC2.
• 4+ years of experience building and managing EKS clusters and strong knowledge of the K8s ecosystem.
• A degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Demonstrable experience in infrastructure as code frameworks, particularly with Terraform, and configuration management using Ansible.
• Production experience in creating and maintaining cloud environments in AWS across multiple geographic regions.
• Consistent track record of building tooling, automation, and/or services in one or multiple languages (e.g., Go, Python, Bash, or Typescript).
• Experience debugging and optimizing systems and code.
• Automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications with Docker or Kubernetes.
• Strong hands-on experience with the AWS ecosystem.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with service mesh concepts and experience implementing service mesh frameworks like Istio or Linkerd with Kubernetes clusters.
• Experience with Prometheus/Grafana/Cloudwatch metrics monitoring, ELK/OpenSearch stack for logging, and PagerDuty for alerting.
• Experience building, maintaining, and scaling database technologies such as Postgresql, MySQL, Redis, and DynamoDB.
• Experience troubleshooting and autoscaling message queueing clusters in high availability clusters such as RabbitMQ, SQS, or Kafka.
• A passion for automation and integrating with build systems such as GitHub, GitLab CI.
• Security-centric in all approaches to design in infrastructure as code and Docker build pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Design infrastructure and automated systems to support our distributed architecture.
• Build and manage CI/CD pipelines, improving their reliability and speed while reducing lead time for changes.
• Trace performance bottlenecks and identify optimizations at both the infrastructure and application level.
• Collaborate with the engineering team to meet high SLO and SLA requirements from customers.
• Maintain highly available web and backend systems serving millions of users and thousands of requests per second.
• Work closely with developers to set up, configure, and plan necessary cloud services for new feature development on AWS.
• Secure infrastructure at both the cloud layer (IAM) and application layer (PKI).
• Build and expand monitoring and alerting systems for infrastructure and business operations.
• Establish comprehensive infrastructure-as-code coverage to support the entire platform.
• Develop tools to enhance and support developer productivity.
• Champion automation of manual processes and reduce operational overhead.

• Annual base salary range of $157,600 - $279,900 for additional US locations.
