About The Position

Labcorp Drug Development is a global contract research organization employing over 50,000 people throughout 60 countries. We conduct clinical trials on behalf of pharmaceutical and medical device companies and offer the world’s largest central laboratory network. We are looking for someone to serve as site attending veterinarian, named veterinary surgeon or other lead veterinarian per local animal welfare-related regulations and guidelines. Responsibilities include: Provide leadership and operational responsibility for all site level AWVS functions and personnel. The key roles of the site level AWVS department are: Provide veterinary health care for laboratory animals, give advice regarding the care and use of laboratory animals, and provide training for scientists and technicians. Monitor animal health and welfare in compliance with all applicable animal welfare regulations and help maintain facilities for AAALAC accreditation. Provide oversight of the animal care and use program and drive compliance with regulatory groups and agencies. Assure animal health and quality. Promote animal well-being. Oversee the surgical and surgical care program. Provide veterinary, scientific and technical expertise. Provide protocol-driven ophthalmology and other applicable veterinary services. Oversee animal welfare-related regulatory compliance activities such as applicable. To provide oversight of multiple animal care and facility management programs and processes at Covance sites on assigned projects. Execute duties of attending veterinarian, named veterinary surgeon or other lead veterinarian per local animal welfare-related regulations and guidelines. Provide laboratory animal medical and surgical care by examination, treatment and advice to ensure adequate and humane veterinary support. Safeguard, monitor and advise on the welfare of animals. Advise on and assist implementation of the principles of replacement, reduction and refinement. Ensure that company policies and practices regarding animal care and welfare are in compliance with relevant regulations. Report all animal care concerns, as appropriate. Receive any concerns regarding animal welfare from other employees or others in strict confidence and pass those concerns on to company management while preserving the confidentiality of the source. Lead or assist in investigations where the welfare of animals has given rise to concern, and become involved in the resolution and appropriate

Requirements

  • 5-10 years in lab animal vet position.
  • Knowledge of small and large lab animals including domestic livestock species.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform in an upper level managerial role.
  • Works on industry-wide task groups and provides leadership or technical support.
  • DVM degree
  • Must have a veterinary license in at least one state in the USA and ability to obtain a license and USDA accreditation in the state where the position is located (i.e. Wisconsin, Indiana, etc.) within 6 months.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years post doctoral residency in lab animal medicine or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Board Certification in the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine or European College of Laboratory Animal Medicine or RCVS Certificate in Laboratory Animal Science or equivalent preferred.
