THE IMPACT YOU CAN HAVE: Reporting directly to the Vice President of Supply Chain Strategy & Systems and serving as a key member of the Supply Chain Leadership Team. The Senior Director of Supply Chain Strategy will be responsible for driving the long-term strategy to optimize and grow Ulta Beauty’s distribution network through transformation. This role involves shaping both short- and long-term supply chain priorities and roadmaps, fostering positive associate relations through team engagement initiatives, and acting as a strategic partner to guide the business in achieving and surpassing sales and profit goals. The Sr Director will be responsible for owning enterprise-wide supply chain network strategy and is accountable for multi-year capital allocation strategy of $300M+. The Sr Director Supply Chain Strategy will drive thought leadership and help lead the implementation of medium and long-term Supply Chain and Enterprise strategic initiatives. This role will serve as critical tie-in across multiple stakeholders and acts as a strategic proxy to the VP. The Sr. Director will serve as a key influencer of the team’s go forward strategy, while also helping the Supply Chain business leads develop near-term project plans to implement their business strategies. This role will drive the strategy to optimize Ulta’s supply chain network, drive end-to end supply chain efficiency, and improve order fulfillment performance, while building the long-term strategy and capabilities for a sophisticated omni-channel fulfillment and delivery infrastructure. Additionally, the Sr Director Supply Chain Strategy will lead a project delivery team as they support the implementation of key initiatives for the Supply Chain organization, including leading project testing plans, updates, and communications to the broader enterprise They will lead executive-level cross-functional steering committees and advise on key trade-offs and strategic opportunities. This role is responsible for all executive level communication including BOD content, Town Hall presentations and executive level reviews. Finally, the Sr Director Supply Chain Strategy is responsible for leading the network modeling and optimization team who will develop actionable supply chain solutions across the supply chain. This team drives innovative solutions and runs scenarios modeling to determine growth strategies and key decisions within the supply chain ecosystem and the Sr Director will have final decision authority on network design recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree from an accredited college with a focus on Strategy, Finance, or Supply Chain Management preferred (MBA preferred)
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in retail supply chain, operations management, or strategy consulting (4+ years’ experience at a top-tier consulting firm preferred) Demonstrated ability to direct and control activities through managers of the functional area
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex issues through analysis of situations or data that required in-depth knowledge
  • Extensive knowledge of leading best practices in supply chain network strategy and optimization as well as project management
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership across the enterprise
  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions within and outside of own function; thrive in the face of complexity, ambiguity and competing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to inform and influence key decisions that may have a longer term impact on multiple functions across the organization
  • Thought leadership with ability to build robust plans and execute with speed, while communicating clear priorities and bring others along
  • Strong strategic mindset, with critical reasoning and qualitative analysis experience
  • Self-starter able to successfully execute against departmental goals with minimal guidance

Responsibilities

  • Identifying, build and evolve the Supply Chain capabilities needed to enable ULTA Beauty’s enterprise strategy. Develop, own and maintain a Supply Chain roadmap that identifies timing and capabilities needed to support future growth and deliver the desired guest experience.
  • Leading the Supply Chain team through definition and execution of strategic initiatives focused on cost optimization and guest experience.
  • Leading the development of network strategy recommendations including the optimal use of current assets, investments in new technology, expansion of capacity, evaluation of alternative fulfillment models (i.e. 3PL, drop-ship) etc.
  • Leading and develop the strategy for DC Network Allocation to support both peak and off-peak needs.
  • Leading the network modeling and optimization team in developing actionable supply chain strategies and solutions.
  • Overseeing the development of network models to support projects including the construction of new distribution centers, the automation of existing distribution centers, and the optimization of end-to-end supply chain costs.
  • Leading the strategic development and ongoing management of annual planning and budgeting activities for the Supply Chain team (i.e., , enterprise planning, annual budgets, goals & objectives, etc.)
  • Collaborating with internal business partners, including senior leaders, on creation of long-term strategic roadmap that defines capabilities required to support future growth and superior guest experience.
  • Leading Supply Chain project scoping and prioritizing to ensure adherence to organizational goals and objectives
  • Leading and managing End-to-end User Acceptance testing for all supply chain projects and initiatives. Leads the build-out of testing strategy, schedules, and the coordination of resources including acquiring and managing external resources as required.
  • Collaborating cross-functional with key stakeholders within and external to the supply chain to ensure testing meets all business needs. Leads the team that identifies, analyzes, and tracks issues and solutions to problems.
  • Leading enterprise initiatives (i.e. international expansion) for the supply chain and determine risks, mitigation options and how operations will support.
  • Leading the development of project testing plans, updates, and communications to the broader enterprise.
  • Developing scorecards and roadmaps for strategic initiatives, including key achievements, timelines, KPIs, sequencing, resource allocation, leadership touchpoints/approvals, risk mitigation and reporting.
  • Leading the Supply Chain Program Management function including the development and ongoing maintenance of supply chain capability roadmaps, project prioritizing, and capital allocation; facilitate updates with key stakeholders.
  • Planning and manage project execution, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and consistent with specifications.
  • Leading and develop a winning team. Clearly communicate vision & priorities, drive strong engagement and lead team in delivering exceptional results.
  • Leveraging data and analytics to identify, evaluate, and recommend strategies to optimize the supply chain network.
  • Conceptualizing, building a business case, and lead large scale projects that may require managing significant external resources.
  • Creating strategic presentations and communications (e.g., board decks) and level-up storytelling.
  • Developing hypotheses that support future projects that drive efficiency.
  • Leading external market and competitive landscape assessments to inform the development and refinement of the supply chain strategy.
