This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. The Sr. Director, Supply Chain Business Development, will lead supplier-facing growth and strategic expansion across Blue Origin’s Global Supply Chain (GSC). This leader will identify, evaluate, and execute opportunities to strengthen and scale our supply base through supplier development, strategic partnerships, potential acquisitions, investments, and vertical integration. This role will report to the VP of Blue Origin Supply Chain and will work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing, Procurement, and Business Unit leadership teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Master’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain, or Finance
  • 15+ years of experience in aerospace/defense, advanced manufacturing, or other highly regulated, complex supply chain environments
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a combination of: supplier development, supply chain strategy, operations, manufacturing, corporate development/M&A, or strategic partnerships
  • Strong collaboration skills with technical teams to co-develop partner solutions
  • Proven track record of negotiating and closing complex, high-impact deals with C-level stakeholders
  • Financial and business-case capability (ROI, capex justification, cost drivers, synergy logic) sufficient to support acquisition/partnership decisions
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% (domestic and international, as required)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading or supporting M&A due diligence, post-merger integration, or vertical integration strategy in manufacturing contexts
  • Familiarity with aerospace quality/production frameworks (e.g., AS9100, APQP/PPAP concepts, special process controls) and supplier quality systems
  • Knowledge of U.S. government contracting environment and compliance considerations (e.g., TAR/EAR)
  • Lean / Six Sigma expertise (Black Belt or equivalent applied experience) and demonstrated supplier transformation results.

Responsibilities

  • Own Blue Origin's vertical integration (VI) strategy and multi-year roadmap, setting priorities and targets across make/buy/partner/acquire to strengthen the supplier ecosystem across cost, quality, delivery, capacity, and resilience
  • Run the VI operating system (trade studies, decision criteria, forums, cadence, dashboards), ensuring decisions are documented, aligned, and driven to closure
  • Drive execution of approved VI decisions, program-managing cross-functional workstreams across GSC, Quality, Manufacturing, Business Units, Finance, and Legal to deliver readiness and value capture
  • Partner with Corporate Business Development and Strategy when strategic investments or acquisitions are appropriate; support diligence and integration planning and lead GSC-related workstreams
  • Lead executive-level supplier engagement and frequent onsite visits to assess operational maturity, scalability, leadership, and strategic fit
  • Build joint operating plans with suppliers (investment roadmaps, equipment/capacity plans, and process/control upgrades) to meet Blue Origin demand and performance targets
  • Drive cross-functional alignment across GSC, Quality, Manufacturing, Business Units, Finance, and Legal to remove constraints and accelerate supplier readiness
  • Structure and negotiate strategic partnerships and commercial agreements (e.g., long-term supply, capacity reservations, co-investment, and exclusivity where appropriate) that enable mutual growth and improved supplier performance
  • Monitor and assess global supplier market dynamics (capacity constraints, sub-tier fragility, consolidation trends, and geopolitical/export risks) to identify risks, opportunities, and mitigation actions
