About The Position

The Senior Director of Project Controls serves as the strategic and functional leader for the Industrial Project Controls Department, responsible for performance in safety, people, client satisfaction, and profitability. Oversight includes earned value management, scheduling, cost and change management, labor and equipment planning, forecasting, and staff development. The Director is also responsible for implementing and continuously improving all project controls processes, systems, and tools within the Company and shall act as a key resource to other department team members and Company leadership. Senior staff within the Project Controls Department shall report directly to the Senior Director, and the Senior Director shall be responsible for managing, coordinating, and evaluating such staff work and performance. Location and Travel Details: This is a remote position, with travel up to 50% and can be based anywhere in the U.S. This position supports our business across the United States. A vehicle allowance or company vehicle and fuel card will be provided. When overnight travel is required, meals and lodging will also be provided. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering or related major
  • Requires a minimum of 15 years of experience in project management and/or project controls in progressing roles of management responsibility in construction, particularly linear infrastructure or renewables construction
  • Requires a track record of successfully managing teams of 5 or more people
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulatory requirements
  • When on-site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors
  • Ability to lead by example and consistently demonstrate safe work practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6
  • Proficiency in InEight Estimating, Control, and Progress modules or similar platform
  • Construction industry experience in power, mining or heavy industrial projects required
  • Proven ability to lead others
  • Excellent communicator
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail

  • This position requires prolonged sitting at a desk and working at a computer. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.

Responsibilities

  • Champion MIC’s Zero Injury principles and promote a strong culture of safety.
  • Lead and manage the back-office project controls team.
  • Direct the scheduling efforts for projects to include the preparation and analysis of schedule baseline, progress schedules, project labor forecasts, schedule analysis, and project progress reporting.
  • Ensure data accuracy to support timely, informed decision-making.
  • Monitor and report on project performance, progress and forecasts, validating and reporting on cost and schedule performance.
  • Assess the impact(s) of project changes and assist project teams in developing claims, change orders, and recovery plans.
  • Identify trends and deviations and communicate root causes of variances and recommend corrective courses of action.
  • Coordinate with the estimating and operations teams.
  • Assist with the performance of value-engineering analysis.
  • Assist with subcontract change orders as required.
  • Mentor team members and strengthen cross-functional relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Inspire trust and ethical behavior by creating an atmosphere of integrity with fair and respectful behavior.
  • Promote transparency and the sharing of information.
  • Participate and assist in attracting, recruiting, developing, and retaining top caliber talent for the Company.
  • Maintain and enhance project controls standard operating procedures.
  • Lead project controls reporting and operations meetings.
  • Improve project controls systems, challenge obsolete practices, question accepted truths and eliminate non-value-added processes.
  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities across the organization and business units.
  • Conduct site and office-based audits of project team’s implementation and use of project controls processes, systems, and tools in the field.
  • Oversee training and support activities for operations groups and project teams on all project controls processes, systems, and tools.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of company-wide project management training programs.
  • Collaborate with directors and company leadership to develop and achieve strategic goals, including business planning, budgeting, and operational improvements.
  • Serve as a member of the company’s strategic leadership team, providing subject matter expertise and thought leadership.
  • Manage, lead direct reports, and mentor.
