The position is a strategic and operational leader responsible for overseeing the direction, coordination, and management of pharmacy services across the organization. This role ensures compliance with all regulatory standards, enhances clinical pharmacy programs, optimizes drug utilization, and drives cost-effective, high-quality pharmacy services.

  • Coordinates department continuous quality improvement processes.
  • Is accountable for purchasing of pharmaceuticals.
  • Develops contracts related to departmental activities.
  • Leads professional development activities.
  • Participates in community activities consistent with the strategic plan.
  • Ensures appropriate utilization of pharmaceuticals under the auspice of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Implements quality improvement initiatives and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Develops and maintains policies and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards.
  • Coordinates record maintenance for clinical and legal requirements.
  • Oversees daily pharmacy operations including inpatient, 340B hospital and contract pharmacies, and specialty pharmacy services.
  • Manages pharmacy budgets, inventory, and procurement in alignment with cost-saving initiatives.
  • Plans and implements system changes that enhance organizational performance.
  • Drives standardization of pharmacy workflows and technology systems.
  • Effectively leads and manages people resources.
  • Works with operations and clinical directors and managers to implement appropriate staffing to meet strategic goals.
  • Identifies collaborative partnerships with physicians to ensure the needs of patients are met.
  • Fosters a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Recruits, mentors, and evaluates pharmacy leadership team and staff.
  • Ensures adequate staffing, credentialing, and licensure across all locations.
  • Performs job functions adhering to service principles with a customer service focus.
  • Graduate from an American Council of Pharmaceutical Education Accredited College of Pharmacy.
  • Advanced degree required.
  • Residency and/or specialized training in pediatrics preferred.
  • Registered pharmacist or eligible for licensure in the state of Illinois.
  • Minimum 5-years pharmacy management experience in a teaching hospital or equivalent experience.
  • Two years of experience at a leadership level.
  • Master’s in Business Administration (MBA), Healthcare Administration (MHA), or equivalent preferred.
  • Team building skills essential.
  • Good oral and verbal written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Up-to-date on pharmaceutical literature, new technologies and pharmacy laws and regulations.
  • Proven track record in strategic planning, budgeting, and project execution.
