About The Position

As the Sr. Director of Major Gifts at Alliance Defending Freedom, you will report to the SVP of Development, and are charged with cultivating relationships with major ministry friends, representing and promoting ADF, and increasing the revenue of contributing major ministry friends (MnFs). In addition to these responsibilities, you will assist the SVP of Development, leading the major gift relationship fundraising team of 10+ Directors and directly leading at least two Directors. This will involve assisting with creating and executing campaigns and matching grants, holding the team accountable to their goals, and ensuring the team is executing on their created strategy plans.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in fundraising.
  • Willingness to travel up to 75 nights per year.
  • Successful experience closing six-figure gifts.
  • Experience in a nationwide, international organization with an understanding of the dynamics of such organizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the presence to engage, inspire, and persuade diverse constituencies including principal donors and senior leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of major fundraisers with the skills and experience necessary to reach revenue goals.
  • Collaborate with the Development Senior Leadership Team to develop a multi-year Ministry Friend engagement plan in concert with the multi-year strategic vision designed for organizational revenue growth.
  • Assist in executing the organizational vision of the CEO and President consistent with the leadership of the SVP of Development within the major gift team.
  • Determine KPIs for Major Fundraisers and help hold the team accountable to these metrics.
  • Assist major fundraisers in annually cultivating and closing 15+ six-figure gifts and multi-year commitments, and a number of seven-figure gifts, while meeting multi-million dollar annual revenue goals.
  • Engage Ministry Friend, Committee/Cabinet members, allies, and senior staff in the development process.
  • Equip the team with the resources required to articulate cases for support.
  • Manage the activity of major fundraisers, including advising, reporting, revenue forecasting, and ensuring accurate activity and pipeline reports.
  • Establish strong mutually-beneficial relationships with alliance partners and organizations.
  • Coach and develop emerging fundraising talent among Development/ADF staff.
  • Provide spiritual encouragement and mentoring to the development team.
  • Perform the duties of a Director of Transformational Partnerships with a special emphasis on building personal relationships with Ministry Friends who give annually $50,000 and above.
  • Increase year over year revenue from your assigned Ministry Friends by qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships.
  • Establish a reliable pipeline of funding from assigned MD1s and MD2s with the goal of multi-year commitments.
  • Thorough follow-through with all internal prospects who have given to ADF and who we believe have potential to be Major Ministry Friends.
  • Participate in fulfilling all annual ADF Matching gifts, record all MnF contact in Reliance in a timely manner, make thank you calls to Ministry Friends in a timely manner.
  • Successfully align partner interests with ADF’s strategy.
  • Collaborate with the Foundation Partnership team in the development of compelling proposals and the development of creative presentations and reports.
  • Identify complex giving opportunities (tax-advantaged tools) and utilize the prescribed referral process for documenting such opportunities.
  • Ensure Ministry Friends know about our Legacy giving community while inviting them to join ADF in the long game by making a gift in their will or trust.
