About The Position

The Senior Director of Institutional Giving, Team Lead will serve as a senior leader on Year Up United’s Development team and will oversee a team of Institutional Giving Officers to secure annual financial resources at national and local levels in support of the Year Up United mission and ongoing operations and strategic initiatives. Reporting to the Managing Director of Development, the Institutional Giving (IG) Team Lead is responsible for meeting an annual revenue goal, and supporting direct reports in reaching their revenue goals. This role is responsible for leveraging existing foundation donors to maximize engagement and funding opportunities and sourcing new relationships that align with the organization’s strategic priorities. The Senior Director also personally owns a significant Institutional Giving portfolio, ensuring effective cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts therein. The IG Team Lead directs the identification and securing of new sources of Institutional Giving revenue to fuel the organization’s growth. This role will serve as a key thought partner in strategy setting and will also be responsible for managing budgeting, capacity building, work planning, and ongoing assessment of the Institutional Giving team’s activities. In order to be a successful candidate for this position, you will bring a passion for our mission and an interest in leveraging your experience in the fields of fundraising and relationship building, especially working on six, seven, or eight-figure grants. Strong candidates for this role also bring experience leading and developing teams, as well as defining and setting organizational strategy. In keeping with Year Up United’s values, the Senior Director will also have the opportunity to interact with Year Up United students as a mentor, group facilitator, and advocate, participating in building a positive educational environment.

Requirements

  • 6-7 years of professional fundraising experience preferred
  • Comfort and skill in prospecting, cultivating, closing and stewarding 6, 7, and 8-figure institutional gifts
  • Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills in a dynamic organizational environment
  • Proven track record on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and closing significant foundation gifts
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong experience working with both high level internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to develop, maintain and leverage relationships with external stakeholders
  • Ability to conceptualize, plan and manage major complex projects and multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Self-starter, comfortable shaping priorities and agenda with broadly-set parameters
  • Ability to collaborate across teams, facilitate difficult conversations, and resolve issues

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of Institutional Giving Officers with individual revenue goals
  • Design and execute large National institutional fundraising opportunities in collaboration with executives or other leaders
  • Lead efforts to assure the engagement and retention/development of team members
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to secure new sources of revenue
  • Manage capacity building efforts, including hiring, Institutional Giving team management, and coaching
  • Serve as thought partner regarding philanthropy and policy trends related to workforce development and target population of young adults
  • Responsible for leading effort to secure the organization’s annual revenue goal and collaborating with a variety of other organizations
  • Lead organization’s Institutional Giving portfolio, comprised of foundations and public funding
  • Cultivate relationships with foundation program officers and key foundation leadership, including foundation presidents, to successfully secure investments at the six-, seven-, and eight-figure level
  • Oversee proposal development and stewardship of institutional gifts for IG team
  • Represent Year Up United by attending and participating in external meetings and events
  • Serve as an advisor/mentor for a small number of current students
  • Join and sometimes facilitate weekly group sessions with students
  • Participate in team staff meetings and trainings
