About The Position

The Senior Director of Development (Director) will partner with the CEO to create and implement a comprehensive vision, strategy, and plan for fund development. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director will manage a Development Specialist and Director of Grants and work closely with the Director of Communications and Community Engagement, who oversees public relations and marketing functions. The successful candidate will build relationships across political, corporate, foundation, business, and nonprofit sectors to promote TWC and its programs and strengthen a broad constituency of support. As a chief spokesperson for the organization, the Director will represent TWC with both internal and external audiences. This role requires the ability to thrive in a balanced culture that values programmatic impact, best business practices, fiscal accountability, and institutional effectiveness. The CEO seeks an innovative and accomplished partner who can inspire the Board and volunteers to achieve greater success. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of the Los Angeles philanthropic landscape, strong intellectual and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative, persuasive, and accountable leadership style.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of major-gift fundraising experience, including direct engagement with Boards of Directors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local funding sources and a proven ability to build strong relationships with donors, funders, and community leaders.
  • Successful track record of growing an annual fund and securing new and increased major gifts.
  • Strategic approach to fund development, with substantial experience cultivating, soliciting, and managing donor relationships.
  • Proven, measurable success in donor segmentation, prospect research, and cultivation strategies.
  • Demonstrated leadership grounded in integrity, vision, and sound judgment, with the ability to plan strategically, set clear goals, and drive initiatives through completion.
  • Strong management, organizational, and financial acumen, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and allocate limited resources effectively.
  • Collaborative and adaptable professional who can work independently and as part of a team while remaining decisive, resourceful, and results-oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and earn the respect of diverse and evolving constituencies.
  • Proven effectiveness as a communicator; public speaking experience required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to TWC’s mission, with the credibility, confidence, and judgment to advance initiatives and inspire support.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and collaborative professional with strong creative and conceptual skills and a flexible, inclusive, and fair-minded approach to leadership.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience required.
  • Valid California driver’s license and automobile liability insurance required.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the CEO, Board of Directors, and fundraising staff to lead development strategy and guide the organization’s overall fund development direction.
  • Lead development team meetings and provide regular updates to the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Ensure all philanthropy and fund development efforts align with the organization’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plans.
  • Play a leadership role in planning and executing the annual gala, with an emphasis on securing new support.
  • Lead and execute a comprehensive fund development strategy that builds a sustainable, diversified revenue base, including a strong annual giving program and a balanced mix of individual, foundation, corporate, and planned giving sources.
  • Drive donor growth and engagement through effective prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and partners, including annual, major, and five-, six-, and seven-figure supporters.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and staff to support the development and cultivation of a strong, engaged Board of Directors.
  • Assist the Board in defining fundraising expectations and accountabilities for Board members and volunteers and support regular evaluation of performance.
  • Oversee the maintenance and integrity of donor and prospect records, gift processing systems, and development reporting.
  • Ensure timely and effective acknowledgment, stewardship, and recognition processes, including feedback mechanisms and required tracking systems.
