Sr. Director of Artificial Intelligence
About The Position
This role will be responsible for designing, building, and scaling AI-driven solutions that enhance operational efficiency, improve decision-making, and support digital transformation across our manufacturing and business operations. The Director of AI will work closely with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to identify opportunities, prioritize initiatives, and deliver scalable, production-ready AI solutions. This individual must be both a visionary leader and a technical contributor, capable of translating complex business challenges into practical, high-impact AI applications.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- Proven experience designing and implementing AI/ML solutions in production environments
- Strong understanding of system architecture, data pipelines, APIs, and scalable cloud-based solutions
- Hands-on experience with modern AI tools and platforms (e.g., OpenAI, machine learning frameworks, automation tools)
- Demonstrated ability to build systems and applications from the ground up
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and working with senior leadership
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into business terms
- Strategic mindset with the ability to balance long-term vision and execution
- Ability to operate as both a strategic leader and hands-on contributor

Nice To Haves
- Experience in manufacturing, supply chain, or industrial environments
- Familiarity with the Microsoft technology ecosystem (Azure, Power Platform, Copilot, Fabric/OneLake)
- Experience building internal tools, dashboards, or workflow automation platforms
- Exposure to ERP systems (e.g., Radius, Vision, or similar) and operational data environments
- Experience with AI-driven document processing, automation, or OCR solutions
- Prior experience building or scaling an AI or data function within an organization
Responsibilities
- Execute Fivestar’s AI strategy and roadmap, aligned with business objectives and operational priorities
- Lead the end-to-end development and deployment of AI solutions, from concept through production
- Design and oversee the development of AI infrastructure, including data pipelines, model integration, and application layers
- Partner with executive leadership to identify and prioritize high-value AI use cases across manufacturing, supply chain, finance, and customer operations
- Translate business requirements into scalable AI-driven tools and systems that improve efficiency and decision-making
- Drive automation initiatives to streamline workflows and reduce manual processes
- Ensure the performance, accuracy, and reliability of AI models in production environments
- Establish and enforce best practices for AI governance, data security, and ethical use of AI technologies
- Collaborate with third-party vendors, consultants, and technology partners to integrate external AI solutions where appropriate
- Develop user-friendly applications, dashboards, and interfaces to enable adoption by non-technical users
- Stay current on emerging AI technologies and continuously evaluate opportunities for innovation
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing AI and data team as the function expands
