About The Position

The Senior Director of Finance and Administration serves as a member of the Vice Provost’s leadership team and serves as a key strategic team member on implementation of projects, policies and initiatives. The incumbent oversees the administration of financial, facilities, and human resource operations for Academic Affairs under the Provost’s Office. All non-school units such as the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies, Undergraduate Education and Academic Services, the Office of Research, the Dean of Faculty, the Office of the University Registrar, AU Central, CTRL, AU Abroad, Career Center, and university centers including the Sine Institute at AU. She/he is responsible for matters related to financial reporting, budget development, data analysis, compliance, grants and contracts, space and personnel management. The Senior Director supports the management of all Provost Division funds (operating budget over $350 million). The position serves as a key team member to the Vice Provost for Academic Administration, and a lead financial analyst on the team and promotes cross functional collaboration among Provost’s Office and Dean of Faculty staff members. The position supports the VPAA in directing projects and financial activities within schools and colleges. The position functions as the right hand to the Vice Provost for Academic Administration for financial operations, faculty budget reconciliation, and the preparation of division wide budget development and realignment efforts. This position receives minimal supervision on daily matters and is expected to accomplish assigned tasks independently or in collaboration with other deans and vice provosts, departmental directors and relevant University offices.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or equivalent.
  • 8 - 10 years of relevant experience of progressive experience in budgeting and accounting in an educational institution or other industries such as professional services and consulting.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing multi-million dollar budgets and budgeting and accounting principles.
  • Excellent organizational skills with proven ability to establish and implement strategic priorities in a dynamic and high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and seek creative solutions.
  • Familiarity with a university environment, including knowledge of the organizational structure of universities and/or non-profit organizations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; analytical, financial, organizational and problem-solving ability; and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team oriented work environment.
  • Reliability and responsiveness.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications and tools for financial analysis and accounting.
  • Leadership, self-direction and independent judgment and the ability to excel in a multi-cultural environment.
