Sr. Director, Commerce Media

TombrasKnoxville, TN

About The Position

Commerce Media is one of the fastest-growing parts of modern performance marketing—spanning Amazon Ads and retail media networks (RMNs) like Walmart Connect, Target Roundel, Instacart, grocery/pharmacy retailers, Chewy, and emerging commerce media platforms. This role will partner directly with the Chief Digital Officer to build Tombras’ Commerce Media practice—standing up a new commerce-focused team and capability that connects: Retailer on-site + off-site media, Tombras’ broader media strategy and investment teams, Analytics + Data Science for omni-commerce closed-loop measurement (in-store + online), and Creative/Content for better commerce experiences that go beyond standard sponsored product ads. How we lead at Tombras: We’re a lean, independent agency. Senior leaders are expected to be multi-faceted operators—leaders with long tenure who roll up their sleeves, lead by doing, and can get in the platform to launch and optimize campaigns at a level that earns trust from the team.

Requirements

  • 10+ years experience in Amazon Ads / commerce media / retail media / marketplaces / performance media (agency experience strongly preferred).
  • Tombras leadership expectation: you are as comfortable in the platforms as you are leading teams—able to personally audit accounts, build campaigns, and optimize alongside your team.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience running large budgets across Amazon Ads and at least one major RMN (Walmart/Target/Chewy/Instacart/grocery/pharmacy RMNs, etc.).
  • Strong experience with Pacvue and/or Skai (ability to operationalize automation, pacing, and scalable optimization workflows).
  • Proven ability to translate commerce business goals into retailer-specific strategies (share growth, new-to-brand/customer acquisition, profitability, category defense/offense, retail readiness).
  • Fluency in commerce KPIs (ROAS, TACoS, NTB/customer acquisition, share of voice/rank dynamics, incrementality/test design concepts, retail media attribution realities).
  • Strong client presence: can lead weekly/monthly performance cadences and executive-level QBRs.
  • Experience building processes, coaching teams, and scaling a capability from early-stage to repeatable delivery.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Co-build the Commerce Media practice with the Chief Digital Officer: define the vision, operating model, hiring plan, training approach, and the “what good looks like” standards that will scale as we grow.
  • Build and lead Tombras’ Commerce Media practice across Amazon and priority RMNs (e.g., Walmart Connect, Target Roundel, Chewy, delivery apps, and other RMNs as client needs expand).
  • Serve as the senior client-facing commerce media leader, presenting strategy, performance, and growth roadmaps to marketing, eCommerce, and sales stakeholders.
  • Lead by doing: as the team scales, there will be times where this role will be responsible for personally launching, optimizing, and troubleshooting campaigns (Amazon Ads + RMNs) when needed—especially during client onboarding, critical performance moments, major promo periods, and new product rollouts.
  • Own end-to-end commerce media activation with a strong “operator” mindset—campaign builds, pacing, optimization, testing, and performance troubleshooting (not just oversight).
  • Partner closely with Media Strategy and Media Investment teams to integrate retail media into full-funnel media plans (search, social, programmatic, CTV, online video, etc.) while keeping commerce-specific KPIs front and center.
  • Collaborate with Analytics and Data Science to define and operationalize omni-commerce measurement (online + in-store), incrementality/testing approaches, and closed-loop reporting frameworks.
  • Collaborate with Creative to develop immersive digital retail experiences and retail-ready creative approaches (e.g., retailer PDP enhancements, creative testing frameworks, richer onsite/offsite formats, and commerce-driven storytelling).
  • Build and maintain platform and partner relationships (Amazon Ads, RMNs, Pacvue/Skai and other tech partners), staying current on betas, product changes, measurement updates, and best practices.
  • Define Tombras’ Commerce Media operating system: retailer selection frameworks, campaign naming conventions, reporting standards, QA processes, and playbooks that scale as headcount grows.
  • Lead new business: support pitches, audits, and commerce media POVs; translate client business goals into retailer-specific strategies and investment plans.
  • Help recruit, hire, mentor, and develop future Commerce Media team members as the practice scales.
