The Sr Director, Web Platforms Engineering is a key leadership role within Pfizer’s Digital and Technology organization, reporting to Sr. Director, Scaled Commercial Platforms & Global Support. Pfizer’s Commercial Creation Center and CDI (C4) team are responsible for the creation, configuration, launch, and support of all externally facing digital (web, mobile, omni-channel, & device) products, platforms, services, and experiences, servicing all external customer types at Pfizer. In addition, the C4 team is accountable for our Marketing Technology (Martech stack) inclusive of Digital Platforms, Digital Channel Enablement, Content Integration, and Marketing/Marketer Tools and for driving Digital Enablement within Pfizer. The Senior Director – Web Platforms Engineering provides the senior level technical leadership responsible for end-to-end technical strategic direction, Roadmap Delivery, Key Project Delivery, Security and Operations Lifecycle for platforms including custom web hosting, microservices, core infrastructure (AWS and Cloudflare services supporting all platforms) and any additional platforms deemed in scope of this role. In addition, this role manages the suite of supporting applications and services supporting the various platforms, such as developer dashboards & builder tools. This global leadership position requires a superior and proven ability to use deep experience, industry/market trends and a broad technology background to anticipate, understand and steer current and future business strategy whilst crafting complementary technical strategy and platform roadmaps to meet business needs and empower our customer-aligned vision. This position is accountable for delivery and scaled operations enabling delivery of key programs operating on a global scale. This position plays a key role in influencing the delivery of the ongoing digital transformation at Pfizer, sharing knowledge, and building alignment at a global business unit level. This position is accountable for setting the platform vision in partnership with key collaborators like Forward Impact Engineering and the Chief Marketing Office. The responsibilities of this position will be providing strategic vision & leadership to the development & operations of the collective Web Platforms including Stratus, Adobe Franklin, Electron, Web Builder, Microservices Platform & Platform Foundations. Alongside the platform leadership an equal focus will be placed on driving an AI first culture with an emphasis on security & building the tooling needed for our platforms to work together as a part of a wider ecosystem. The role leads a team of colleagues and contractors and is a manager of people managers.

  • Strategy Development: Develop, own, and implement a comprehensive technology strategy across multiple platforms aligned with Pfizer's overall business objectives. This includes identifying key areas for investment and innovation to enhance our marketing effectiveness and customer engagement.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with all relevant partners, including Forward Impact Engineering the CMO, Brand Marketers. Build and maintain relationships with our vendor partners and other thought leaders to ensure Pfizer’s technical strategy is aligned with industry excellence.
  • Leadership: Provide leadership and guidance to a senior team each with their own diverse focus areas and objectives. Coordinate and influence resources across key partner organizations including, but not limited to, Engagement, Global Support & Operations, and Forward Impact Engineering.
  • Forward Impact Engineering: Own the technical relationship with Forward Impact Engineering ensuring a clean, agile path for the transition of platforms and solutions into C4. Establish and maintain a partnership to align technical approaches to deliver on shared goals for rapid delivery capabilities.
  • Platform Management: Own the management and optimization of multiple platforms, including Custom Web Apps, Microservices, Static and Dynamic hosting, AWS & low code builders, ensuring these platforms are effectively integrated and aligned with our commercial goals. In addition operate a production engineering function responsible for the day to day operations and support of our platforms.
  • Enabling Services: Lead the delivery teams supporting a portfolio of services across platforms providing orchestration, data and AI capabilities atscale in adherence with Pfizer compliance and security standards. Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
  • Core Infrastructure: Own the strategy and delivery of the core infrastructure supporting all platforms with a particular focus on our external estate. Ensure that security and compliance standards are met, and a consistently high security posture is maintained.
  • Finance: Manage the Web Platforms Engineering budget including cloud spend, vendor contracts and resource allocation. Deliver cost optimizations across the infrastructure whilst maintaining high availability and uptime for all capabilities.
  • Security: Leading an offensive security team to analyze technical solutions, processes, and platforms for vulnerabilities, and simulate real-world attacks on the C4 digital estate. Provide senior incident response capabilities across C4 where required to streamline communication and incident handling.
  • Technical Problem and Crisis Management: Navigate and resolve complex technical and business challenges including regulatory compliance, global scalability and emerging technology integration. Serve as the senior escalation point for critical infrastructure and platform decisions impacting multiple customers and external stakeholders.
  • Talent Management: Develop, implement & maintain a strategy to attract & retain key technical talent across the BPC organisation.
  • Culture: Nurture and maintain our engineering community culture across the organisation by leading a team dedicated to improving developer productivity and experience. Champion the DevOps mentality, shared responsibility, transparency, and a culture of measurement, learning, and feedback.
  • Experience as an information technology professional in various roles, including leading large scale global digital capabilities.
  • Experience in managing senior technical talent.
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 12+ years of experience or master's degree and 10 years of experience or a PHD and 7+ years of experience.
  • Progressive experience with increasing responsibility designing, delivering, and maintaining numerous large-scale, global systems & platforms for large-scale global organizations across multiple hardware and software platforms. Including leading teams of contract or colleague resources.
  • Experience operating in a large multi skilled software development or operations team.
  • Demonstrable experience operating in a DevOps environment.
  • Demonstrable experience with Software Development Lifecycle management, including production system maintenance and operation.
  • Demonstrable experience with software delivery concepts including Agile, Scrum, Kanban, Lean, Continuous Delivery, Microservices, API-first.
  • Demonstrable leadership experience with: Custom web application development, AWS services, infrastructure operations and Cloud development, Complex Data Integrations/patterns, Data Modeling, Analytics & Reporting, PHP & Laravel
  • Experience with modern testing practices including TDD, BDD, API Mocking.
  • AWS Infrastructure scaling and optimization best practices.
  • Fantastic interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to establish relationships, influence outcomes, and deliver effective presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent skills in analysis, critical thinking and planning, oral and written communication, consensus building, facilitation, negotiation, and the ability to readily learn a new business area.
  • Demonstrated experience in: Handling financial resources and staff to meet goals across multiple projects Sourcing model definition and effective execution Global Technology Leadership experience.
  • Ability to work with others in a constructive and collaborative manner & influence others outside of the immediate span of control.
  • Ability to lead in a complex, matrix environment with distributed resources.
  • Pharmaceutical Industry Experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with vendor negotiations.

  • In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 22.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
