About The Position

The Senior Director of Global SMB Seller Risk will lead the global strategy for managing fraud, abuse, and solvency risks, focusing on solopreneurs, micro-sellers, and small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs). This critical role requires a leader who can articulate and execute visionary thinking with cutting-edge AI and machine learning to optimize risk management strategies across diverse seller segments. You will work to ensure the safety and scalability of our platform while upholding PayPal's commitment to consumer and seller protection guarantees. You will be a key member of the Global Fraud Prevention organization that is part of Global Risk Management organization at PayPal.

Requirements

  • 15+ years in risk management, fraud prevention, or financial services, with 10+ years in senior leadership roles.
  • Proven experience influencing C-level executives in large, global matrixed organizations.
  • Successful track record of leading large, globally distributed organizations effectively.
  • Deep knowledge of fraud, solvency, and abuse risks specific to solopreneurs, micro-sellers, and SMBs in global ecosystems.
  • Demonstrated success driving cutting-edge risk management solutions using AI and advanced analytics.
  • Exceptional ability to influence and engage with C-level leaders, articulating complex strategies and their business impacts.
  • Proven success in working cross-functionally with engineering, product, and regional teams to deliver impactful solutions.
  • Expertise in using data, analytics, and AI to inform risk strategies and optimize outcomes.
  • Experience managing risk programs across multiple geographies, accounting for regional nuances and regulatory variations.
  • Adept at dealing with ambiguity, working at pace, and prioritizing changing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute a global seller risk management framework from origination to portfolio management, ensuring alignment with PayPal's core mission to support solopreneurs and SMBs in every market.
  • Develop strategies to address region-specific fraud and solvency challenges while optimizing for diverse seller segments.
  • Orchestrate business needs, fraud strategy and technical solutions to prevent malicious seller activities.
  • Collaborate with data science and engineering teams to create capabilities that enables real-time systems that dynamically adapt to emerging fraud patterns across the global seller ecosystem coupled with a 2nd line control framework in mind.
  • Ensure alignment with PayPal's consumer and seller protection guarantees, minimizing abuse while maintaining trust.
  • Oversee the application of models and analytics to assess seller solvency, using credit bureau, open banking, or alternative data to assess transaction patterns, revenue forecasts, and real-time cash flow data to preempt financial instability from origination to portfolio management.
  • Guide the organization to effectively segment sellers (e.g., solopreneurs, and SMBs) by risk profiles to tailor interventions and optimize resource allocation.
  • Implement reserve optimization strategies to balance risk coverage and platform growth.
  • Oversee the design of sophisticated onboarding and identity verification systems to ensure seamless yet secure seller experiences.
  • Leverage AI to assess and detect fraudulent or deceptive entities during onboarding while reducing friction for legitimate sellers.
  • Implement global identity solutions that account for regional variations in regulations and seller demographics.
  • Drive risk strategies that uphold PayPal's consumer and seller protection guarantees, ensuring these commitments are both scalable and sustainable.
  • Develop advanced tools to identify and address abuse of these protections, safeguarding platform integrity.
  • Build and lead a high-performing Seller Risk team that thrives on innovation, and collaboration, and execution.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, and Fraud Operations teams to design risk strategies that enhance seller enablement.
  • Act as the primary seller risk SME advisor for C-level executives, providing data-driven insights and recommendations.
  • Lead risk management efforts for a global seller base, addressing the unique needs of different regions, industries, and seller types.
  • Ensure solutions are scalable, adaptable, and inclusive of emerging markets and underserved segments.
