About The Position

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago is in the midst of an ambitious comprehensive fundraising campaign. Inspired by our vision to ensure a healthier future for every child, we are driven to engage our communities and supporters to change the future of children's health. The Senior Director, Donor Engagement & Communication will be a strategic leader who plays a key role in the success of the campaign. He/she/they will lead a client services team which has two streams: first, the team that envisions, inspires, creates and delivers a best-in-class donor experience; and second, the team that develops and delivers a full suite of donor communication materials, including fundraising proposals, donor impact reports, and pitch decks and related fundraising tools and assets. He/she/they will manage staff in the Donor Relations and Donor Communications teams and partner with the Vice President, Community and Donor Engagement to develop strategies to proactively provide support for all cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship efforts. The Senior Director will be a seasoned leader who has demonstrated success developing strategies for individual donor engagement and one-to-many stewardship initiatives. He/she/they will have experience working with internal and external constituents and senior leaders in various roles and will have a strong sense of how to craft a compelling donor presentation in a variety of forms—from formal proposals to brief pitch decks. The Senior Director will have a track record in effective project management as well as a creative, problem-solving mindset and a service-oriented spirit.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; advanced educational qualifications preferred.
  • Ten or more years of fundraising experience, preferably in healthcare, academic medicine or higher education.
  • Five or more years of management experience.
  • Willingness to attend meetings/events on evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Thorough knowledge of the fundraising industry and best-in-class donor stewardship practices.
  • Discretion with confidential materials.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge or other fundraising/CRM databases.
  • Spreadsheet and database software experience.
  • Ability to work independently in a deadline-oriented team environment.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects under demanding deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills as well as creativity and resourcefulness.
  • Dexterity to operate computer equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to envision and develop thoughtful, strategic plans, annual goals and objectives, service-level agreements, program enhancements, policies and procedures, as well as the ability to implement, manage, and analyze the effectiveness of these plans over time and adjust where warranted.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the nuances of donor communications styles and preferences across generational, social, and demographic factors with an exceptional ability to absorb and translate information from a variety of sources into communications and programs that deliver impact and resonate with diverse audiences.
  • Effective collaboration with colleagues within the Foundation and across the organization to develop impactful, omni-channel donor cultivation, recognition and stewardship plans that measurably improve donor retention and increase engagement.
  • Aptitude for complex fundraising and database systems; use of technology and systems for marketing, communications, and donor engagement; use of graphic design elements and software, and use of digital stewardship platforms.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills that promote academic and business professionalism and convey information and impact clearly and concisely.
  • Highly effective leadership and management of human and financial resources with a commitment to expand and centralize donor relations and communications efforts.
  • Demonstrated experience fostering collaborative teamwork and accountability with an emphasis on team performance and perpetual development.
