About The Position

Daikin Applied is seeking a Sr. Designer who will use computer-based tools to design parts and assemblies, create production drawings, and manage BOMs and product configurators. The Designer will support the sustaining team focused on existing product lines and will also originate, develop, or modify product designs from conception to finished manufacturing documentation, assuring quality, manufacturability, functionality, serviceability, and cost have been considered. Requirements

  • Vocational, Technical, or Associate of Applied Science degree in design/drafting AND 5+ years of related design experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or similar) + 3 years of related design experience will be considered
  • Intermediate Excel skills
  • Professional work experience with manufacturing practices and processes and product configurations, including basic logic for product or design selection.
  • Professional experience using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tools
  • Understanding of legacy bill of material systems and product structuring logic
  • Work visa sponsorship is not available for this position

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in sheet metal design and/or HVAC products is desired.
  • Experience with variable geometry parts and configurator logic is desired.
  • 5+ years of related design experience

Responsibilities

  • Create engineering documentation, including Solidworks, modeling, fabrication and purchase drawings that conform to Daikin standards
  • Translate engineering/marketing intent into manufacturing working 3D layouts, detailed documentation and Bill of Materials and configurators
  • Work with VAVE/Product Engineers and Production Engineers to provide 3D models and documentation for original designs or custom modifications of current products
  • Exhibit a sense of design and mechanical aptitude with abstract thinking and reasoning skills.
  • Demonstrate creative ability, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness through incorporation into design and configurator work
  • Provide accurate estimates of tasks on projects and execute to your estimate.
  • Work with project management to consume and communicate additional work estimates as needed
  • Gain knowledge of design and manufacturing practices, processes, and Daikin products.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of all current and legacy bill of material systems and product structuring logic
  • Be part of and function in a team environment including cross-functional and inter-departmental teams
  • Mentor less experienced drafters and designers within the team
  • Potentially travel to other Daikin Minnesota or Mexico facilities as needed up to 10% of the time
