Job Title : Sr. Design Engineer Reporting To: Manager Staff, SDG Engineering Work Schedule: Onsite – Buffalo, NY Moog Western New York Defense Group is projecting significant growth driven by an increase in new design and development. This has been bolstered by recent high profile defense contract awards with our strategic customers and subsequent internal investments in IR&D and business capture opportunities. We are looking for an experienced design engineer to add to our growing team. Primary design focus is varied but centered in the realm of electromechanical/electrohydraulic in the field of missile flight actuation, military vehicle motion control applications for both ground and naval platforms. The position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance and access to U.S. export-controlled information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering with 10 years of relevant engineering experience or a Master's Degree and 8 years of relevant design experience.
  • Experience interfacing with customers and demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to mentor and coach other engineers.
  • Can understand new technical concepts and products. Utilize these skills to understand risks and take appropriate action.
  • Practical knowledge and/or experience with technical drawing practices and GD&T standards
  • 3D CAD modeling experience
  • This position requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior knowledge and competency in the area of servomechanism, servo valves and control are preferred.
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of brushless motors sizing and operation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design effort for applications including missile steering actuation systems, critical positioning system.
  • Apply your expertise in design for manufacturing.
  • Work with peer engineers and technicians to inform the design for manufacturability.
  • Support the detailed analyses for our products including the following possible areas including CAD layout, GD&T tolerance analysis, dynamic, structural and thermal analysis capability and understanding.
  • Direct other engineers to generate conceptual designs/drawings, and/or conduct that work individually.
  • Ensure drawings are complete and accurate which could include using Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) methodologies to meet design, manufacturing and inspection requirements
  • Application engineer Moog standard products to meet new mission requirements.
  • Work in Teamcenter/NX or comparable CAD application.
  • Present your work to colleagues and to customers.
  • Mentor and coach other design engineers.
