About The Position

For more than 95 years, Standard Process Inc. has been a visionary leader in whole food nutrient solutions. Our whole food philosophy and mission to change lives extends far beyond our supplements to the very people we employ. This strong foundation has created an environment where our employees are seen as members of our family and are given the tools and resources to succeed, both personally and professionally. Working within IT Operations, the Senior Database Engineer owns the reliability, stability, security, and performance of the company’s enterprise database platforms, with primary ownership of the on-prem Oracle environment supporting IFS ERP. This role is first and foremost a Run-focused operational leadership role, accountable for stabilizing the current Oracle/IFS environment and executing the upgrade and remediation required to move the organization off its unsupported Oracle/IFS state. Core responsibilities include patching, security hardening, HA/DR, backup and recovery, performance tuning, and platform lifecycle management. The role also provides administration and operational support for Oracle environments and SQL Server platforms. The Senior Database Engineer partners with Software Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, and Analytics teams as needed, but does not own core analytics engineering or BI development deliverables.

Requirements

  • 7–10+ years of professional database engineering or administration experience, with significant Oracle DBA experience in enterprise production environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Demonstrated success supporting and stabilizing business-critical Oracle environments, including upgrades, remediation, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with HA/DR, backup and recovery, patching, and security hardening for enterprise databases.
  • SQL Server experience preferred as a secondary skill.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to lead through operational incidents and recovery scenarios.
  • Extensive hands-on experience as a database administrator or engineer with deep Oracle Database expertise, especially in mission-critical enterprise application or ERP environments.
  • Strong experience supporting Oracle databases for ERP workloads, ideally including IFS or similarly complex transactional enterprise platforms.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Oracle administration, including patching, upgrades, backup and recovery, HA/DR, security hardening, and performance tuning.
  • Strong proficiency in Oracle PL/SQL and database troubleshooting tools used in production support environments.
  • Working knowledge of SQL Server administration in a secondary capacity.
  • Strong understanding of database operational excellence, including incident management, change control, root-cause analysis, and service continuity.
  • Experience designing and executing backup and restore strategies and conducting recovery drills.
  • Scripting and automation skills using PowerShell and/or Python.
  • Experience with monitoring, alerting, and observability tooling for database platforms.
  • Strong documentation, stakeholder communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred certifications: Oracle OCP; SQL Server or Microsoft certifications optional and nice to have.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical owner for the on-prem Oracle environment supporting IFS ERP, ensuring platform stability, availability, and operational integrity.
  • Lead efforts to stabilize the current Oracle/IFS environment and execute remediation plans to address unsupported Oracle/IFS versions, including upgrade planning, patching, compatibility validation, and post-upgrade support.
  • Administer, patch, upgrade, secure, and monitor Oracle databases across on-prem environments, with secondary support for PostgreSQL and SQL Server.
  • Design, maintain, and test HA/DR capabilities for Oracle workloads, including backup and recovery strategies, failover readiness, and recovery testing aligned to RPO/RTO requirements.
  • Own backup and restore operations, recovery validation, and disaster recovery readiness for business-critical ERP database workloads.
  • Perform database performance monitoring and tuning for Oracle ERP workloads, including execution plans, indexing, wait and event analysis, resource contention, and workload optimization.
  • Lead Oracle database security hardening, user and access review support, patch compliance, vulnerability remediation, and operational audit readiness.
  • Plan and execute database maintenance, lifecycle activities, and environment remediation with minimal business disruption.
  • Support and optimize Oracle PL/SQL objects, stored procedures, packages, and related database code required for operational continuity of ERP workloads.
  • Provide operational administration and tuning support for Oracle databases, including backup and recovery, performance monitoring, and replication concepts as applicable.
  • Provide limited support for SQL Server environments including basic administration, maintenance, and issue triage.
  • Partner with infrastructure, application, and vendor teams to troubleshoot incidents, support changes, and drive root-cause remediation.
  • Develop and maintain operational runbooks, standards, and automation for routine database administration tasks using PowerShell and/or Python.
  • Participate in on-call rotation, incident response, and postmortems for production database platforms.
  • Maintain documentation for configurations, recovery procedures, architecture dependencies, and support responsibilities.
  • Partner with Analytics and Software Engineering teams where needed on downstream data access or integration needs, but analytics engineering, ETL/ELT pipeline ownership, semantic model development, and dimensional modeling are not core responsibilities of this role.
