About The Position

Grow your career internally at Petco, our best talent comes from within! The Sr. Data Scientist will create algorithms that drive company pricing and promotion strategies and engines. This role involves building and iterating algorithms and platforms for pricing and promotions strategies, prototyping, testing, deploying, and measuring new pricing and promotions models, and partnering with data engineering teams to automate and productionize systems. The candidate will apply econometric, statistical models, and machine learning to explain and predict business impacts of pricing and promotions decisions. Additionally, the role includes designing, executing, and assessing pricing and promotion experiments to drive both top and bottom line returns. The candidate will utilize and continually learn the latest modeling techniques to identify optimal price and promotions, including Bayesian optimization, surrogate modeling, causal inference, and others.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Operations Research, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or related field of study and 3 years of experience working with econometrics, statistical modeling or machine learning methods on real world problems.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in the same fields and 5 years of progressive experience working with econometrics, statistical modeling or machine learning methods.
  • 3 years of experience with consumer pricing concepts such as price elasticity, price optimization, demand forecasting, or consumer segmentation.
  • Experience building models in Python using causal inference, predictive modeling, time series forecasting, optimization, econometrics or statistics.
  • Experience analyzing enterprise-level multi-dimensional data sets stored in Google Big Query, Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, or similar enterprise database with tools including Python and SQL.
  • Experience deploying machine learning algorithms using AWS, GCP, Airflow, Terraform, or Docker.
  • Ability to present analytical methodology and results to non-technical audiences.
