About The Position

Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity. The Senior Data Scientist, Kuiper Ground Services, will bring a mixture of advanced data and statistical analysis, modeling, dashboarding, and ETL skills. The ideal candidate will use data-driven methods to answer satellite mission planning questions and play a key role in the development of measurement models, employing experimentation and machine learning. The right person in this role will be able to deal with ambiguity and define frameworks where no prior examples exist. They will be an ambitious self-starter with the ability to operate independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated ability and willingness to roll up sleeves and execute to get the job done will be key to success in the role.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience
  • 4+ years of data scientist experience
  • Experience with statistical models e.g. multinomial logistic regression

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of data visualization using AWS QuickSight, Tableau, R Shiny, etc. experience
  • Experience managing data pipelines
  • Experience as a leader and mentor on a data science team

Responsibilities

  • Own the roadmap and build satellite operations measurement capabilities aligning with Amazon and industry best practices to Kuiper needs.
  • Apply causal inference and machine learning techniques to measure satellite effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Extract data for analysis and model development from large datasets to address mission planning questions.
  • Create and maintain complex queries.
  • Develop dashboards and visualizations that incorporate decision science to inform mission decision-making.
  • Collaborate effectively with business partners and team members to align marketing science efforts with strategic goals.
