About The Position

American Water is seeking a legal professional to lead and manage all legal aspects of mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures at a centralized level. This role involves leading legal due diligence efforts and providing strategic legal support for new business opportunities. The successful candidate will manage the end-to-end legal aspects of assigned transactions, ensuring timely and effective execution while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. The position also includes directing and leading the Counsel, M&A and Senior Principal M&A positions as part of the overall Corporate Legal BD function, and collaborating with Corporate Strategy and Business Development teams on competitor analysis, target evaluation, and innovation initiatives.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years legal experience as a licensed practicing attorney, both law firm and in-house experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated management level experience in a utility regulatory environment preferred.
  • Experience effectively leading a team.
  • Juris Doctorate law degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice in one or more states where the business unit currently operates.
