About The Position

The Sr. Cost Accountant is a member of the Controlling team within the Finance department of Bachem Americas. This position is a key member of the team and is responsible for processing, analyzing, reconciling, reviewing, and reporting financial business results. The Senior Cost Accountant directs activities of product costing, product manufacturing analysis, and inventory valuation. As well as performing a critical component of the audit process. The position provides recommendations to senior management in support of the achievement of Company goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or similar field
  • 10 years' experience in a manufacturing environment, with MRP system
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to function well in a team environment
  • Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SAP
  • Ability to effectively organize, multitask, and work in a fast-paced, deadline driven work environment
  • Ability to communicate in a proactive and solution-focused manner, including keeping management aware of potential issues
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical and analytical problems
  • Ability to work independently and manage one's time
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) or Swiss GAAP FER (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Actively plan for and participate in the monthly financial close: Month end close of cost collections PO, SO, IO; Prepare the monthly location P&L's and financial package and review with Management; Monthly accruals / work with plant/facility management to analyze actuals and make accruals
  • Preparation of monthly Key Performance indicators including: Site Gross margin analysis by product; Business Partner variance analysis; Prepare actual vs. plan (budget) analysis; Total non-quality cost drivers (TNQC)
  • Govern inventory movement and reporting: Evaluate Inventory reserve; Perform cycle count
  • Analyze, cost and close production orders: Review of job cost activity ensuring consistent and proper coding; Analyzes changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods, or services provided, to determine effects on costs. Analyzes actual production costs and prepares periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs
  • Develop and maintain standard costs of finished goods and production components: Maintain, improve and harmonize standard cost process and documentation to streamline reporting and improve efficiency
  • Maintain and improve processes and controls associated with manufacturing costs and inventory valuation: Ensure that appropriate internal controls surrounding inventory movements are in place and provide support for compliance
