About The Position

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Controller, the Senior Corporate Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting for corporate entities and certain other excluded assets managed by the company, as needed. The Sr. Corporate Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, and other related financial activities. As a key contributor to the team, the role supports ESRT’s financial reporting and operational excellence and leads key accounting functions, including general ledger management, month-end/quarter-end close activities, account reconciliations, and compliance with GAAP and internal controls. This role ensures accurate and timely financial information, partners closely with cross-functional teams, and contributes to continuous process improvements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and proactive, with the ability to operate independently while supporting ESRT’s high standards of accuracy, accountability, and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and corporate accounting principles, with hands-on experience in monthly and quarterly close processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (intermediate) and familiarity with ERP/accounting systems
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, investigate root causes, and develop effective solutions
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Effective communicator (written and oral) who can present financial information clearly and collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team, contributing to a positive work environment
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain well-documented workpapers and reconciliations
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, process efficiency, and upholding internal controls
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
  • 2-3 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally in corporate accounting, public accounting, or a combination of both
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or progress toward CPA preferred
  • Big 4 audit experience and/or public REIT experience preferred
  • Experience with Yardi preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
  • Process monthly journal entries, including corporate allocations and accruals, and maintain the integrity of the general ledger
  • Perform monthly/quarterly budget vs actual and month-over-month variance analytics, monitor expenses, and provide financial insights to support decision-making by management
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly reconciliations and other supporting schedules in accordance with SOX requirements
  • Collaborate with Financial Reporting and Accounting Policy team to record journal entries related to significant non-routine transactions
  • Review and record monthly corporate credit card expenses
  • Review entries and workpapers for accuracy and appropriate documentation, and investigate and resolve discrepancies
  • Assist with annual budget and quarterly reforecast process, through data entry, analysis, and recommendations
  • Prepare audit schedules and respond to auditor inquiries to support quarterly and annual audit requests
  • Record transactions, prepare financial statements and investor reporting packages for certain managed assets
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Accounts Payable, Marketing, Legal, and IT, to ensure timely submission of information and adherence to monthly and quarterly deadlines
